The National Gallery of Australia will present
Turner to Monet - The triumph of landscape from 14 March to 9 June 2008.
This exhibition is a new look at landscape painting in the nineteenth century as it transformed from the depiction of known places to explorations of mood and time passing.
Painters ventured into the wilderness, seeking extremes of elemental nature. Increasingly, humans were shown in the city, where nature is controlled. Works by the finest artists of the time―Turner, Constable, Friedrich, Corot, Courbet, Glover, Von Guerard, Church, Streeton, Roberts, Cézanne, Van Gogh, Gauguin, Monet― will be seen, gathered from public and private collections in Australia and round the world.
