A New Baby Gorilla at Taronga Zoo
Welcome to the gorgeous new addition to the Gorilla family, Fuzu, meaning Warrior/Fighter. The tiny infant male Gorilla was born early December at Sydney’s Taronga Zoo. There are now eight Gorilla’s in the Gorilla Forest. One silverback, three adult females, two juveniles – one male and one female, and two infant’s one female and one male. Fuzu is getting a lot of attention from his very curious brothers and sisters who have a constant and inquisitive eye on him. Fuzu is the sixth offspring to mother Frala. She has plenty of mothering experience and is enjoying her new bundle of joy. The Gorilla Forest is certainly an attention-grabbing, vigilant experience that is a must to see. The best viewing times for the Gorillas are at their feeding sessions during the day at 9.00am, 11.00am and 2.00pm.
What a wonderful life the Elephants have at Taronga Zoo
Porntip, Pak Boon, Tang Mo, Thong Dee and young male Gung are the five fabulous Asian Elephants at Taronga Zoo. These Elephants have all come from separate backgrounds in Thailand and have formed a happy and well balanced family at Taronga Zoo. Their daily activities involve swimming, diving in the deep pool, rolling around in the mud wallows, eating, trumpeting their magnificent sounds and of course taking that deserved evening nap. Visitors are always thrilled to see the activities these enthusiastic Elephants get up to. You will not be disappointed.
A Rare Beautiful Owl was rescued from Ravens
Thanks to Sydney Metropolitan Wildlife Service, this beautiful and rare Powerful Owl chick was rescued from a group of native Ravens in its Lane Cove National Park home. This extraordinary bird, now named “Loretta” had injures from the fall and the Ravens had attacked her and pulled out all her tail feathers resulting to her not being able to fly back to her nest.
Loretta is now being taken care of from the dedicated team at Taronga Veterinary Zoo and is making terrific process. She is being taught how to fly and also how to recognise and eat food similar to what she would eat in the wild.
Come and see this magnificent creature whose wingspan can reach up to 140cm. This Powerful Owl is the largest species of owl in Australasia and is unfortunately only a step away from becoming endangered.
