Two Giant Pandas on loan from the China Wildlife Conservation Association are to be among the newest additions to the Adelaide Zoo in 2009.
The agreement between Australia and China will see Wangwang, a two-year-old male and Funi a one-year-old will call Adelaide Zoo home for 10 years.
Adelaide Zoo has a successful history managing a wide range of carnivores, including the endangered Red pandas and several ursids (bear species). The Zoo has both the technical capabilities and professional staff that will play a large part in delivering exciting conservation outcomes.
Adelaide Zoo will be the first in two decades to house Giant Panda's in the Australiasian Region with the last attempts being one pair of Giant pandas visiting for 3 months each at Taronga, Melbourne and Auckland Zoo in 1988 as part of the bicentennial celebrations.
