CBD Welcomes New Chef Csaba Sellei - in Perth Posted: Friday, 23 May 2008

Csaba Sellei, Executive Chef at CBD Bar Restaurant completed his apprenticeship in the Five Star Hungar Hotels throughout Hungary.
Csaba’s passion for quality food and his desire to learn led him to Munich in 1990 where he worked and trained with a Master Chef. Originally commencing his employment as a Commis Chef, his quick learning ability and obsession for preparing quality food saw him advance to Chef de Partie in no time.
First arriving in Perth, Western Australia in 1995 Csaba knew no English and was employed by an Austrian Chef and Restaurateur in South Perth, Western Australia. Within 3 months of his employment Csaba’s experience and dedication for his product saw him running the kitchen and leading the team of young chefs. Csaba then spent the next year and a half here growing his English language skills and learning of Western Australia’s fantastic local produce.
Csaba then moved on to work for Fraser’s Restaurant within Kings Park as Chef de Partie. Here he had the opportunity to cook for the Japanese Ambassadors on a regular basis. The next four years was spent working for the Royal Perth Yacht Club where he cooked for many high profile Politicians and Royalty including Prince Andrew.
Csaba’s flamboyant personality and desire to teach people the skills to become great cooks saw him start private cooking classes. Due to demand from several guests at the Royal Perth Yacht Club Csaba started these classes within private homes and catered for approximately 12 people.
Csaba then joined Broadwater Hotels and Resorts as Executive Chef in 2004 before joining the team at Rydges Perth in 2008.
Always eager to learn new skills and methods of cooking Csaba even took a brief cooking class whilst travelling through Bali. Describing his food as a fusion of many influences, from Asia, Middle East to Europe; Csaba has incorporated the entirety of his world wide travel experience into his cuisine.
Incorporating all of his above experience with his love of local Western Australia produce, Csaba has created a seasonal menu that will tingle the taste buds, and excite the senses. His colourful personality and devotion to his food is evident in every single on of his creations.
Csaba is a very hands on Executive Chef with a love for his craft; his enthusiastic personality has made him a hit with his past and current customers.
