Royal Observatory Greenwich London Tuesday, 8 September 2009 to Monday, 31 May 2010 Happening at Greenwich London
The establishment of a Royal Observatory was proposed by Sir Jonas Moore in1674, who in his role as surveyor general, at the ordnance office persuaded King Charles II that the observatory might be built.
It is situated on a hill in Greenwich overlooking the Thames River.
The buildings include a museum of astronomical and navigational tools and several histological artefacts are also displayed documenting the history of precision timekeeping for navigational and astronomical purposes.
