First Ladies: Significant Australian Women 1913-2013
First Ladies profiles women who have achieved noteworthy firsts over the past 100 years.
The focus display includes Australia's first female Governor General, Quentin Bryce; Elizabeth Blackburn, the first Australian-born woman to be awarded a Nobel Prize; and aviatrix Nancy Bird Walton, Australia's first female commercial pilot.
First Ladies maps the milestones accomplished by Australian women across diverse fields of endeavour, from politics, activism and academia to sport, science and business, taking in the stories of household names and unsung heroines

Kastom: Arts of Vanuatu
Vanuatu is very different from other Pacific nations. Traditional practices better known as Kastom remain strong even after a century of dual colonial religious influences. Kastom: Art of Vanuatu presents for the first time the unique collection of arts from this area held by the National Gallery of Australia. In the early 1970s the Gallery contracted an agent to field collect in Vanuatu resulting in the acquisition of nearly two hundred works, a selection of which will be accompanied by other important works from the NGA's Vanuatu collection

Jessie Traill forged a radical path for printmaking in Australia through the duality of her vision. Depicting the beauty of the natural environment alongside dynamic images of industry, her lyrical response showed a profound understanding of the dilemma which requires nature to be sacrificed in order for the modern world to progress

This winter/spring at the National Gallery of Australia, gear up for the Turner from the Tate: The making of a master. The exhibition consists of 40 oils, complemented by 70 works on paper, from a large watercolours to intimate sketches.
