A SEA of pink balloons and pink pyjamas brightened a grey Hobart day yesterday to raise awareness for breast and gynaecological cancers.
October is "Pink" month and Cancer Council Tasmania is encouraging people to support fundraising activities, including Girls Night In and Pink Ribbon Day on October 22.
Every day in Australia about 48 women are diagnosed with breast or gynaecological cancer.
Cancer Council of Tasmania ambassador and breast cancer survivor Deborah De Williams has raised thousands of dollars for charity by walking and running around Australia.
She encouraged people to donate money to help provide support services for affected women and their families, as well as for research.
"Every single cent raised here stays here to help Tasmanians with cancer," she said.
She also encouraged women to have regular health check-ups. "My message is always that early detection is the key, because I wouldn't be here if I'd waited," she said
