HE'S used to rubbing shoulders with the rich and famous but Australian Formula One star Mark Webber has issued a general invitation for anyone to join him in Hobart for his Adventure Run on Sunday.
The Red Bull Racing ace wants people to join him for a 6.5km run from Hobart's waterfront, over the Queen's Domain, and back again.
Webber said participants did not need to be super-fit -- 380 people of all shapes and sizes proved that in the inaugural run last year.
"The Adventure Run was a huge hit and I'm really confident that we'll get an even bigger turn-up this year," he said.
"I encourage families, in particular, to come down and join in. It's a really great course, challenging but not too hard, taking in some of the city's prime viewing spots."
The Adventure Run will be conducted at the same time 80 elite athletes are finishing the fifth and final day of this year's Mark Webber Tasmania Challenge, a multi-sport race down the East Coast to Hobart.
"It gives everyone in the Adventure Run, young and old, the chance to join in the spirit of the five-day race without the need to be an endurance athlete," Webber said.
Just like the endurance race, everyone competing in the run will raise money for charity.
The Mark Webber Challenge has raised more than $1 million.
"It's a real buzz for me to see that people get a lot out of the event themselves, and obviously we know that we can put back in, with the funds raised going to really needy causes."
Webber was racing in the Brazilian Grand Prix at the weekend. It was a race he won last year.
The Mark Webber Challenge starts in Launceston on Wednesday, heads to Ben Lomond on Thursday, St Mary's on Friday, Bay of Fires on Saturday and Hobart on Sunday.
