Chinatown is located on little Bourke Street which is only a few steps away from Rydges Melbourne's Front Door.

It is a distinctive and well known area of Melbourne which dates back to the gold rush days of the 1850s. Chinatown Melbourne is the longest continuous Chinese settlement in the western world. This area consists of some of the city's best Chinese restaurants and shops, and is in close proximity to the shopping districts at its western end and the theatre district at its eastern end.

Each year Chinatown hosts many traditional Chinese festivals and activities such as the Asian Food Festival and the Chinese New Year.
