What's On

Coming Up...

During Labour Weekend 2012 (19-22 October) the people of Glenorchy will celebrate 150 years of settlement in the district as part of the Wakatipu celebrations.

These celebrations will include a wide variety of activities to remember Glenorchy as it was in the early years of being settled, such as: the TSS Earnslaw cruise via the Lake stations, a historic walk around Glenorchy, historic photos displayed, an old time dance, pot luck dinner with everyone dressed in historic costume with suitably themed activities, and a picnic at Paradise.

As well as celebrating this momentous occasion, Glenorchy is actively working towards two main commemorative projects - restoring the Old Library and extending the Lagoon Walkway northwards. These projects will be completed and officially opened during the celebrations.

We welcome anyone who has had an association with the Head of the Lake to share memories, stories and photos, which we will add to the existing archive at the Museum . Visitors will also be welcome to join the event
