Rydges Sydney Airport Hotel (Sydney’s Only Terminal Hotel)
Sydney New Year’s Eve is as world famous as the city itself, but if you think you’ve seen it all before, think again.
Every year we create a new theme and invite a Creative Ambassador to share their ideas and vision and bring the theme to life. This makes each Sydney New Year’s Eve celebration unique.
The theme for 2013 is Shine. Shine truly epitomises our city – from the way the sun glimmers on harbour waters and the brilliance of our fireworks – to the sparkle in the eyes of Sydneysiders and the glow on the faces of our visitors ,Sydney shines brightly!.
This year’s Creative Ambassador is one of Sydney’s most original and imaginative residents and a national cultural icon. Artist and musician Reg Mombassa is known around the world for his distinctive artwork for clothing label Mambo, as well as the founding rock bands Mental as Anything and Dog Trumpet.
Our creative ‘Mombassador’ will take us on a journey exploring this year’s theme and his vision of the city’s great landmarks, glittering harbour and vibrant villages. We won’t spoil the surprise, but we will tell you that 2013 Sydney New Year’s Eve has been Mombassified!
At 9pm and midnight, the City of Sydney’s fireworks will light up the harbour and Sydney Opera House, illuminating the night sky with a kaleidoscope of colour. Don’t miss the spectacular Harbour of Light Parade™ where imagination, creativity and rope lights combine to produce an amazing parade of illuminated vessels.
Whether you join the 1.6 million visitors on the Sydney Harbour Foreshore or the crowds watching on TV around the globe, join us as we welcome in the New Year with our world-famous fireworks display with the glittering Sydney Harbour as its backdrop.

Shore Thing NYE Festival
Since 2005, Shore Thing has been Sydney’s favourite New Year’s Eve party, taking over the most famous stretch of sand in the world, Bondi Beach, with the biggest names in music. From Fatboy Slim, David Guetta, Basement Jaxx and Armand Van Helden to Snoop Dog and Calvin Harris last year, it’s the event that ensures New Year’s Eve keeps its reputation as the ‘Party of the Year’.
But this year’s line-up ensures it will not just be remembered but rather reverberate through you for years to come with the insanity of Knife Party to raise the non-existent roof and kings of dance music The Chemical Brothers hitting the DJ decks to ensure that as 2012 draws to a close no one is going to be standing still. Add to this musical mayhem a heap of fireworks lighting up the ocean and you will be well basking in your best New Year’s ever.
