Located 19 kilometers off the coast of Fremantle, Rottnest Island or “Rotto” as the locals know it is an absolute gem and has a truly special place in the hearts of most locals. The island is Perth’s favourite holiday and weekend playground, 11 kilometers long and 1400 hectares in area; with a stunning selection of some 63 beaches. Activities include hiring sea kayaks to exploring secluded bays, cycling around the island perimeter, a trip of 24 kilometers or simply kicking back and relaxing. Food and drinks are readily available from a number of outlets including cafes, a restaurant and a pub.
If you’d like to learn more about the island history or about quokkas (the island’s official marsupial mascot) you can also join a guided tour.
Access to the island is by scheduled ferry via Fremantle, Hillarys Boat Harbour and Perth City with trips taking 25 minutes from Fremantle, 45 minutes from Hillarys or 90 minutes from Perth's Barrack Street Jetty.
