When IOC president Juan Antonio Samaranch declared "and the winner is Schydeneey" he may not have realised that the 2000 Olympic Games would leave the the city with a great legacy in the form of Sydney Olympic Park.
The 640 hectare site now offers a number of recreational activities and cultural pursuits. The Visitors Centre which is open daily, runs guided tours of all the major venues including the Olympic Stadium & Aquatic Centre or you can take a self guided audio tour. Best accessed via train, the Olympic Stadium is regulary used to host Rugby League & AFL games during the season. The Overflow Park is used as a backdrop for large scale arts events whilst the 100 hectare Bicentennial Park is a nice spot just to sit back and watch the world drift past.
