Literally millions of words have been written over the years about Sydney’s landmark Opera House. Some people loathe it, the vast majority seems to love it, but it’s definitely worth a look just to help you make up your own mind. The story surrounding the Opera House’s initial design, construction, the architect’s departure mid- project and its final acceptance as part of Sydney’s psyche read like a Shakespearian drama.
The Opera House occupies the entire tip of Bennelong Point with awesome harbour and bridge views and the public can access the building and surrounding apron. To get a better insight, you can take a backstage tour or, better still, you could always buy a ticket to attend a performance.
Located next to the Opera House is the Royal Botanic Gardens. Spread over 30 hectares, these world famous gardens with over 40,000 plant specimens are a great spot to sit, relax and simply watch the world go by. Very popular with tourists, locals and flying foxes alike. If you are in the gardens at dusk around the Palm Grove, you’ll understand the bat reference.
