Sydney Olympic Pool

Ipod friendly guides | Email to a friend | Print article

This much loved outdoor swimming pool opened in 1936 and can proudly claim that 86 world records were set within its lanes. It’s not sporting nostalgia that draws patrons to this art deco inspired pool, but rather the incredible close up view of the Sydney Harbour Bridge. When the temporary roof is removed during summer, you can swim a few leisurely laps and gaze up at ‘The Coathanger’ in all its glory. Sydney does have a newer ‘Olympic Pool’, located in the Homebush Aquatic Centre opened for the 2000 Games, but North Sydney Olympic is the locals’ favourite.
