You can catch Star Wars Burlesque: The Empire Strips Back in Albury on Thursday, June 19 at the Albury Entertainment Centre.
By definition ‘burlesque’ means to parody or imitate in an absurd or comically exaggerated way and is traditionally a variety show that incorporates striptease… and that would explain why this delightful evening of entertainment is recommended for mature audiences. It is also recommended for Star Wars fans wanting a fabulous, fun-filled night out – I imagine non-star Wars fans would be scratching their heads as to why the rest of the room is erupting in unbridled hilarity.
The show arrives in Albury on the back of a number of sell-out shows in Sydney and at selected venues around the country where it received excellent reviews. George Lucas would never have imagined that the characters he invented could evolve into the ones who strut their stuff on stage in this intergalactic extravaganza. And that’s probably why Russall’s major fear for the show he created is getting sued by George! I’m sure he had sound legal advice when he decided to have a disclaimer prominent on the promo material:
Disclaimer: This is a parody production. Star Wars™ and its characters are registered trademarks of Lucasfilm Entertainment Company Ltd or Lucasfilm Ltd. This production is not sponsored, endorsed by or affiliated with Disney, Lucasfilm Entertainment Company Ltd, Lucasfilm Ltd or any of its subsidiaries or affiliated companies and/or third party licensors.
Whew! And if you are travelling from out of town to see The Empire Strips Back, the Rydges Albury force will be with you to look after all your accommodation needs.
