Anzac Day marks the anniversary of the first major military action fought by New Zealand and Australian forces during the First World War. Commemorative services are held at dawn, the time of the original landings at Gallipoli and, later in the day, ex-servicemen and women meet and join in marches through the major cities and many smaller townships around the country. It is a day to reflect on war, and peace, and on those who paid the ultimate sacrifice so we could continue living in a free country.
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them.
