The 11th annual Auckland Festival of Photography rolls out across the Auckland region in late May and June (29 May -20 June). Over 95 free photography exhibitions and events are scheduled in Central, West, North and South Auckland.

One of the highlights for this year’s Auckland Festival of Photography is the worldwide Nikon Photo Contest exhibition exclusively from Tokyo at the Aotea Centre.  Another is the Festival's homegrown Annual Fine Arts Commission by Sacred Hill exhibition at the Wynyard Quarter (Silo 6).

A Talking Culture Symposium will be held in the Auckland Art Gallery Auditorium on the Queens Birthday weekend, with keynote speakers from USA, Australia and New Zealand. These speakers will focus on the issue of indigenous cultures in the digital age and representation through photography.

The Nikon Auckland Photo Day competition (7 June 2014) gives photographers 24 hours to capture their city in a single photo. Groups, individuals, families, children and anyone who has access to a camera is encouraged to take part to capture the scenes, people and places that reflect their vision of Auckland region on this day.

These photographs form an annual time capsule of the city and create a valuable historical archive - a day in the life of Auckland as seen by the people of Auckland.

For a full Auckland Festival of Photography program check out the official website and, for all your accommodation needs, Rydges Auckland will make you welcome with a smile, and not just for the camera!
