Festival ian 4/2/2014

This Easter the Waiheke International Jazz Festival serves up an all-star line-up of talent across four all-weather venues with more than 100 musicians performing over the three days. The slogan punsters have gone for the catchy phrase, “Make a Waihekend of it!” and why not with so much on offer.

Waiheke International Jazz Festival 2014The Festival kicks off on Good Friday with the “Good Friday Groove” – an all-day family-friendly event held at a Rangihoua Estate – this year featured performers include The Phoenix Foundation, Five Mile Town, BlackSandDiva, Jan Hellreigel and Jesse Sheehan.

A bus service is available to transport day-trippers from the wharf to the venue and back for just $10!

The highlight on Easter Saturday and Sunday is the Daytime Jazzabout pass - ideally suited to Jazz lovers, tourists, day-trippers, super gold card holders, families, friends and acquaintances who are looking for a great day out on Waiheke .

A bus service is available to transport day-trippers from the wharf each day to the three venues where seven bands will perform throughout the day. All of this for just $39 a day, plus bus fare ($10).

The Evening Concert Series on Friday and Saturday evenings this year features a double bill of headline acts including Sola Rosa, The Eastern, George Washingmachine & “Feel the Manouche” (Australia), the Wellington City Shake-Em-On-Downers, the Nairobi Trio and guests, Sal Valentine and the Babyshakes (a 10 piece high energy swing outfit) and Cousin Alice (UK). These are seated concerts and are always a favourite of festival-goers. Also on Saturday night - Miho Wada (photo) - where "Afro-Cuban flute meets J-Pop".

The late night Supper Club is specifically designed to cater to the festival faithful. On Friday BlackSandDiva and on Saturday Sal Valentine and the Babyshakes begin each session by creating an up-market soulful swinging dance environment – this is followed by cutting edge Jazz into the wee small hours from Germanys’ Solid Brew and new-comers In Transit.

The Grand Finale concert on Sunday evening showcases the variety of entertainment presented over the weekend, rounding off another great Easter Jazz Festival on Waiheke Island. Door sales only for this event.
