THE RYDGES POST
A recent survey by Conde Nast Traveler magazine saw Auckland and Melbourne voted most friendly in the world. A number of factors were taken into account including, of course, the demeanour of the locals.
Melbourne was commended for being one of the ‘classiest cities in the world’ and was praised for its abundance of amazing nightlife, food and hotels and was praised for its “fabulous” public art and its people’s “wonderful sense of humour”.
Auckland residents also got big ticks for their sense of humour, friendliness and their view of life that is “something to aspire to attain”. The city was also praised for its culture, fresh food and being “clean, youthful, adventurous and beautiful”.
The survey also ranked the world’s least friendly cities and coming out at the top of the bottom was South Africa’s Johannesburg, which was labelled “dangerous” and a city of “crime and contrasts”. And poor old France hasn’t been able to shake off the stereotype of being populated by rude, arrogant and aloof people. It scored three cities in the bottom ten – Cannes, Paris and Marseilles. Mind you, the pickpockets are more than happy to welcome tourists.
If you visit either of those number one super-friendly cities Rydges will give you the friendliest of friendly welcomes at Rydges Auckland or Rydges Melbourne in the CBD and Rydges on Swanston on the Melbourne city fringe.
