THE RYDGES POST
The Lion King has been wowing audiences at the Capitol Theatre in The Haymarket and it has to close on August 31 when the production will move to QPAC in Brisbane.
This is a sensational musical and a wonderful production for all ages with fabulous music, theme, costumes, dance, puppetry and performances. The Serengeti Plains explode into life as you can see in the video teaser below.
Darling Harbour is also close by and the Australian National Maritime Museum has a remarkable photographic exhibition titled Beautiful Whale (Eye to Eye with the Greatest Mind in the Sea).
American artist Bryant Austin is the only photographer in the world producing life-size photographs of whales. He spends weeks and months with whales off Tonga, Dominica and the Great Barrier Reef where he immerses himself in the water and remains motionless, waiting for humpback, minke and sperm whales to pass less than two metres away from his lens.
The result is extraordinarily intimate and detailed portraits that illuminate the majesty and spectacle of nature's underwater giants. Austin sees himself as a modern day ‘cave artist’, sharing his experiences with others who were not there and capturing a species on film that may cease to exist due to human activity.
