It would surprise some people that the Australian Botanic Garden at Mount Annan (near Campbelltown) is Australia’s largest botanic garden with more than 4000 species of native plants. An exclusive part of the garden is the Wollemi Walk of Discovery – here visitors can experience exact genetic replicas of the ancient trees found in the secret gorge in Wollemi National Park.
It is a lovely spot to visit for a picnic or BBQ (the Garden covers 416 hectares and there are five picnic areas with shelters and BBQs). There are kilometres of walking tracks, cycling trails, interactive sculptures, a bird watching shelter and the restaurant and café, Melaleuca House, which is great for casual dining and weekend breakfasts indoors or outdoors in the courtyard.
Melaleuca House is a popular venue to celebrate weddings, birthdays or special occasions as well as a casual meeting place for a chat over breakfast or later in the day for a burger, some pasta or a coffee. It’s open seven days from 8:00am to 4:00pm (public holidays from 10:00am, closed Christmas and Boxing Days).
