THE RYDGES POST
Following the postponing of their Australian tour in September, the all-female Irish music ensemble, Celtic Woman, is now on the road in January 2014 with a couple of venue changes.
Celtic Woman follows in the voicesteps of the beautifully haunting lyrical and melodic style that Enya and Clannad presented Celtic music to the world.
Celtic Woman has been called ‘Riverdance for the Voice’. Apart from the distinct, angelic, uplifting sound the concept of Celtic Woman belongs to the Musical Director of Riverdance, David Downes, and co-founder Sharon Browne.
Downes originally chose four individual singers who had not sung together and a fiddler and gave them a repertoire that ranged from traditional to contemporary. That was in 2004 and six million albums and some line-up changes later they play to packed houses around the world.
The Australian dates are:
January 12 – Brisbane Entertainment Centre
January 17 – Sydney Entertainment Centre
January 18 – Royal Theatre, Canberra
January 19 – Hamer Hall – The Arts Centre, Melbourne
January 21 – Adelaide Entertainment Centre
January 24 – Riverside Theatre, Perth Convention & Exhibition Centre
