In April/May Australia and New Zealand will see the enigmatic Hugh Laurie and Copper Bottom Band touring. Some know Laurie only as an actor, some know him as a comedian, some know him only as a musician and he is also a writer and director. He’s only 54 but he has achieved a huge amount of critical acclaim, popularity and wealth.

Laurie was the leading man in the drama, House, from 2004 to 2012 where he picked up a string of awards and was listed by the Guinness Book of Records as the most watched man on television – and those sort of ratings can come with a pay cheque of $400,000 an episode. So, surmising that he doesn’t ‘need’ to work – this tour has to be one of love…

Laurie first came to prominence in the early 80’s, the last time he toured Down Under, as a comedian. In those days he appeared in shows like The Young Ones and Blackadder as well as being the other half to Stephen Fry in A Bit of Fry and Laurie.

These days Laurie’s passion is recording and performing an eclectic mix of blues, tango, Southern and South American music… and he combines it with perfectly timed delivery of incisive British humour. Over to you, Hugh…

'We're really excited to be coming to Australia to perform. The last time I was there was 1981, in a comedy show, and the world has changed a lot since then. I haven't though. I'm exactly the same. It's uncanny. Obviously, I'll be hoping to restore some national pride after the Ashes. If anyone throws anything at me, I'll lob up an easy catch to the balcony.'
