Choosing the best things to see and do in any neck of the woods can be a very personal decision so I asked Gemma from Rydges Mount Panorama for her Bathurst Top 5 things to do and see if you plan to visit. Gemma went for these (in no particular order):

  1. Annie's Old Fashioned Ice Cream ParlourThe National Motor Racing Museum located next to Rydges Mount Panorama (200m) – Here is a link to the NMRM website
  2. The Australian Fossil & Mineral Museum – home to the Somerville Collection
  3. Do a lap around Mount Panorama – it is a public road most of the year and you can walk or drive to get up close with the country’s best known racetrack…
  4. Visit the neighbouring historic villages of Hill End or Sofala for a taste of how life was during the gold rush…
  5. Drop into Annies Old Fashioned Ice Cream Parlour for a sweet treat. This is Bathurst favourite… the fresh ice cream is made in store and draw on the region for their names (e.g. “Sofala gold” is honeycomb, “Carillon Cherry” is the local cherry ripe. The parlour is located in George Street directly across from Carillon Park and on summer weekends there are usually lines out the door. The servings are generous and the prices reasonable. Cash only (no eftpos/card facilities).
  6. And, of course, for your accommodation needs and a warm country welcome, Rydges Mt Panorama will look after you!
