Welcome to Rydges Perth My Kitchen Rules. Ahhh… having a little fantasy here… imagine if we could have Manu and Pete from MKR arrive to judge our CBD restaurant menu

+++

Ding Dong.

It’s the doorbell. No time for panic because preparation is complete. Our Executive Chef is ready!

The sponsored car parked, the dapper diners straighten their matching suits and take their seats, curiously at the same end of the table. Cosy indeed, but lousy for conversation. That’s okay, however, these chaps are used to dining without talking – they have developed a secret code where raised eyebrows and quirky grins speak volumes.

The entrée is served – seared scallops, cauliflower puree, crispy pork belly & chilli herb dressing.

Pete and Manu taste. In silence. With their mouths closed, just as their mothers taught them.

Pete’s left eyebrow arches like a sprayed caterpillar. He is obviously very impressed. Either that or he has wind. Manu’s brow furrows and he nods sagely. He’s also impressed. Either that or he has detected that Pete has wind.

The main is served. It is the duo of lamb; roast rack & braised shoulder with carrot puree and red wine jus.

They again eat in silence, leaving not a skerrick on the plate. In fact, the plates are so clean they nearly sport that little animated sparkly sunbeam thing that goes ‘ping’.

Pete and Manu’s eyes meet. It is an exquisite moment that must be seized. They nod, give a simultaneous wry smile, spring to their feet, rip open their shirts and do a lap of the room, performing a hyperactive impression of flappy birds.

“Aussi, aussi, aussi…” yells Manu, to which Pete responds, “Oi! Oi! Oi!”. Pete obviously doesn’t realise that ‘aussi’ in French translates as ‘also’… Manu continues, “Aussi, aussi, aussi, ze entire meal was ay-may-zing!” Amazing indeed, as he manages to turn three syllables into three words.

“Perfection!” Pete announces. “Oui! Parfekshon!” Manu agrees. “Ten out of ten!” shouts Pete. Manu agrees, “Oui! Dix out of dix!!!”

Well! What did the chef and the team think of this reaction by the judges? Not much, apparently it happens all the time…
