The Bago Vineyards and Maze is arguably Greater Port Macquarie's best kept secret, They open seven days a week from 9:30am to 5:00pm with the last entry to the maze at 4:00pm – they don’t want panic in the car park because someone else is still in the maze.
This is a delightful spot for a picnic and they have BBQ facilities – and, being a winery, there is a cellar door. The winemaker is Greg Hayward and the wine varieties are Unwooded Chardonnay, Verdelho, Viognier, Savagnin (formerly Albarino), Jazz White (Semi-Sweet), Jazz Red (Chilled Red), Chambourcin, Tannat, Merlot Chambourcin, Petit Verdot, Sparkling Pinot Noir Chardonnay, Sparkling Chambourcin, Spritzy Chardonnay (Silver Boot), Spritzy Rose (Red Boot), Chanel Paradisa, Tawny Port, Vintage White Port.
Considered locally as ‘the home of Jazz’, Bago's Jazz in the Vineyards is held on the 2nd Sunday of each month – more details on their website here. Bago Vineyards also has a dedicated Events Organiser to assist with weddings or private functions. There is disabled access.
And, of course, the Bago Maze is simply aMAZing – it is the largest hedge maze in NSW and it costs $10 for adults and $7 for children to go and get lost. The maze forms the first and central element of the future planned Bago Gardens, which will be developing over the next few years.
Bago Vineyards is 8 km from Wauchope. If travelling from Port Macquarie, take the Oxley Highway to Wauchope. At Wauchope turn left at Bago Road.
