Woo-hoo! At last a reason to take some interest in the upcoming Winter Olympics in Sochi. Nothing against the sports or the competitors but, apart from the movie Cool Runnings, like many Australians I don’t have an association with playing or watching snow and icebound events… all is now right with the world for Yours Truly because ‘Rampaging’ Roy Slaven and H.G. Nelson have been signed by the Ten Network to cover the Games and make proceedings easy to follow!

From memory there aren’t too many body contact sports so we probably won’t be treated to anyone ‘going the squirrel’ but variations of ‘the Dutch Wink’, the ‘battered sav’ and the ‘Chiko Roll’ are well on the cards.

In the press release to announce this Russian Revolution television event Roy Slaven commented, “Ten has given us a great opportunity to look closely at the new Russia and to catch up with old friends newly released from prison.” H.G. added, “There is no greater thrill in the world of sport than seeing young, fit Australians wearing the green and gold standing on the top step of the podium, wearing medals and grinning.”

Ten's coverage of the XXII Sochi Olympic Winter Games begins on February 7.
