Rydges Lakeland Resort Queenstown
Choosing the best things to see and do in any neck of the woods can be a very personal decision so I asked Jenny from Rydges Townsville for her Top 5 things to do if visiting. Jenny went for these:
- Magnetic Island
- Castle Hill
- The Strand
- Reef HQ
- Billabong Sanctuary
Here’s an overview:
Magnetic Island is the only island on the North Queensland Coast with a delightful blend of National Park, a resident population of about 2,500 and a variety of holiday resorts. Although in the Tropics, the Townsville area is in a rain shadow which makes it the sunniest city on the Queensland coast (Magnetic Island averages over 320 days of sunshine per year).
Castle Hill has great walking tracks or you can just drive up for great look out over Townsville. Castle Hill dominates the Townsville landscape with its lovely pink hues and palms.
The Strand is a seaside foreshore in North Ward with a view of the Port, Magnetic Island and to Cape Cleveland. There’s a pavement alongside the ocean, the jetty, a recreational park with BBQ areas, waterpark, restaurants, cafes and the Tobruk Memorial Baths.
Reef HQ is the world’s largest coral reef aquarium. You can experience the Great Barrier Reef without getting wet and get up close to an amazing world filled with thousands of marine creatures. With impressive exhibits the aquarium offers an ever changing, showcasing rare and extraordinary features of the Reef. Here’s a link: http://www.reefhq.com.au/
Billabong Sanctuary (Australian Native Animal Wildlife Park and Function Centre) is home to crocodiles, koalas, kangaroos, snakes, wombat and birds. Visitors can cuddle a koala, hold a wombat, and if brave enough, handle snakes and crocodiles! Nowhere else in Australia can you interact with so many of Australia's native animals. For snacks and meals there’s Blinky Bill's Café and the sanctuary opens from 9:00am to 4:00pm every day except Chrismas Day. http://www.billabongsanctuary.com.au/
