Recently Alex Merz, the Front Office Duty Manager at Rydges Tradewinds took a day trip from Cairns to the beautiful Daintree Rainforest to visit the Daintree Discovery Centre with his wife and 10 year old son, Rui.
We had a chat with Rui and his dad to find out what their trip was like…
Rui did you climb to the top of the canopy tower?
Yes! I did climb the canopy tower it was very fun! But when the wind blowed hard the tower was wobbling a little bit.
Did you spot a cassowary?
No. Unfortunately I did not see a cassowary. I think it was hiding in the bushes and also it was before Cyclone Ita came to Cairns.
What was your favourite part of the Daintree Discovery Centre?
My favourite part of the Daintree Discovery Centre was climbing the tall canopy tower. I saw a strange bug it was awesome!
Which are better: bugs or butterflies?
Bugs are better because they are cute and the can make strange nests.
I think butterflies aren’t that cool because they have a short life time and they just fly around.
Alex would you recommend the Daintree Discovery Centre to other families look for family day trip?
I would definitely recommend it, even if just for the drive. The area the Discovery Centre encompasses shows a unique interaction of the Daintree eco-system. Such a wonderful place; close to Cairns but far enough to forget life’s troubles. Oh, and the fresh sandwiches and coffee are a must for lunch!
