There are some terrific acts coming soon to the Michael Fowler Centre Wellington.
The Michael Fowler Centre has a distinctly unique design that is a much-loved part of the Wellington skyline and it has a three-level glass facade and finished throughout with native timbers and Italian marble. The vibrant wall hangings in the main foyers represent the different moods of the Wellington weather.
Appearing on April 16 is a multi-talented chap by the name of Hugh Laurie with his Copper Bottom Band. Most people first became aware of Laurie as a British comedian when he formed a very funny and successful comedy partnership with Stephen Fry (A Bit of Fry & Laurie) and appeared in Blackadder in the 80’s and 90’s. He then went on to be a household name thanks to playing the complex character, Dr Gregory House in the American drama called House. He was reportedly earning $400,000 an episode for this one so he’s touring for the love of music, not to pay the bills. Expect an eclectic mix of blues, jazz, Southern American and Latin music with some sharp, witty banter in between. More info here.
On April 27 there is a rare double musical bill with soul sisters Joss Stone and India.Arie. India.Arie has been nominated for an amazing 21 Grammy Awards, has won four and has sold over 10 million albums. Joss Stone has one Grammy, two Brit Awards on her mantelpiece and six albums and she’s only 26. More info here.
On May 5 the Centre hosts a crusty old legend, country music star, Grammy Award winner, actor, songwriter band singer, Kris Kristofferson. From Rhodes Scholar to the Highwaymen, Hall of Fame and 2014 Lifetime Achievement Award at the Grammys there are sure to be some fine anecdotes from this storyteller as well as much loved ballads like Me and Bobby McGee, Help Me Make it Through the Night and Sunday Morning Coming Down. More info here.
