Choosing the best things to see and do in any neck of the woods can be a very personal decision so we asked Kieren from Rydges Wellington for his Top 5 things to do from Rydges and the CBD. He went for these:
- Te Papa - National Museum of Wellington
- Parliament Buildings Tours
- Wellington Cable Car
- Mount Victoria Look Out
- Crocodile Bikes on the Waterfront
There’s always something happening at Te Papa with lots of visiting exhibitions and events – here is a link to the museum’s official website and the What’s On section.
There are free, daily, one-hour guided tours of Parliament and they begin on the hour at the Visitor Centre in the foyer of the Beehive (Executive Wing).
This year the famous cable car celebrated 111 years of service to the city. It’s a favourite with locals and visitors alike and allows easy access from its terminal on Lambton Quay to the top entrance of the Botanic Garden and the Kelburn lookout.
From the top of Mt Victoria you can watch the Cook Strait ferries sail into the harbour and planes taking off and landing at the airport.
The enormous Crocodile Company is located at the entrance to the Overseas Passenger Terminal. From here you can take your family or friends on a discovery tour around the waterfront from Oriental Bay to Kumutoto on an Enormous Crocodile quadricycle. Runs from 10:00am till sundown.
