Explore the Daintree Rainforest or Snorkel the Great Barrier Reef, there’s several things to do in Port Douglas
Surrounded by Australia’s most famous natural wonders, this slice of Tropical North Queensland appeals to all travellers. From rainforests to reefs, beaches and wildlife, there are almost too many things to do in Port Douglas.
The Great Barrier Reef is the largest living thing on Earth and should be on everyone’s bucket list. The 2,300km-long ecosystem is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and can be explored by scuba diving, snorkelling, helicopter and glass-bottom boat.
The Daintree Rainforest is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is comprised of over 1,200 square kilometres of luscious tropical rainforest. From Cape Tribulation to Mossman Gorge, the Daintree has so much to offer – zip-line through the dense canopy, explore the magical forest by foot or brave a crocodile tour, if you dare.
Besides the reef and rainforest, Port Douglas is famous for being home to one of Australia’s most iconic beaches. The picturesque and very postcard-worthy Four Mile Beach is lined with palm trees and curves away into the distance as far as the eye can see. This truly is tropical paradise. Whether you’re snorkelling around the rocky headlands, grabbing a bite to eat at a nearby restaurant, taking in the spectacular view at Trinity Bay Lookout or catching some sun on the golden sand, Four Mile Beach is a must-do for any traveler visiting Port Douglas.
A trip to Port Douglas isn’t complete without visiting Kuranda, the “Village in the Rainforest”. This charming town is home to Koala Gardens, Kuranda Markets, the Australian Butterfly Sanctuary, a rainforest cable car and river cruise. However, the Kuranda Scenic Railway is the main attraction, taking passengers on a breath-taking journey through dense rainforest – make sure you bring your camera!
Another place to add to the list is St Mary’s by the Sea. Take in the spectacular views and beautiful gardens that surround the quaint little chapel, which is at the end of the main drag in Port Douglas Village and only a short walk from Port Douglas Marina.
Escape the ordinary and explore Port Douglas – your own little spot in the heart of Tropical North Queensland.
