THE RYDGES POST
Saturday, May 31 is a big date in our diary – our management team will be hosting some of our clients at the Adelaide River Races on Adelaide River Cup Day – and Rydges will also be sponsoring one of the races!
The course is about 90 minutes south of Darwin and it is one of the great race days – a real country race meeting that has loads of character, lots of fun, Fashions in the Field and some fabulous racing.
There are seven races on the program – gates open at 11:00am and the first race is at 1:00pm. Free camping is offered for the Saturday night – handy for those who want to drive to the races and have a few drinks! Here’s a link to the free camping conditions. There will be live entertainment with The Funkey Monks from 6:00pm till late. There are also bus transfers available, contact the Darwin Turf Club on 8923 4222.
Speaking of turf – The Adelaide River racetrack is unique (unlike Darwin and Alice Springs) in that it is a turf racetrack. The Cup was originally run back in 1942 as a rest and recreation event for Australian troops stationed there during World War II and the vent has increased in popularity and size since then. The Adelaide River is noted for its large population of saltwater crocodiles and while they are not known for having an equine diet, probably best not to go for a swim.
