Spring has sprung, the grass has riz, I wonder where the bogongs iz?

BogongsYour humble blogger spends much of the year in his home in South-East Queensland and, every Spring the big bogong moths appear – the flutter out of crevices, cupboards and cars, then disappear, as if by magic.

There’s no magic involved – just the seductive magnet of the Snowy Mountains – so off they fly to the High Country and spend Summer, not moving, just arranged like little roof tiles in the cool caves of the mountains… and then in autumn, they head back up to South-East Queensland to breed, because their larvae can’t handle the cold and do it all over again.  Curious.  I wonder who was the first to tell them how scenic the Snowy is in the Summer months.
