I’m sure a lot of locals will tell you that there are no Bad Neighbours in Campbelltown but there certainly are at Event Cinemas.
Is this a bad taste movie? Is it offensive? Does it deserve its MA15+ rating because of strong sexual references, coarse language, drug use, sex scenes and nudity? Yes, yes and yes. It is also a very funny movie with a warm and fuzzy heart.
If you go along expecting hard-core humour that occasionally aims at the lowest common denominator you will be pleasantly surprised at the rewarding (but not ‘sugary’) niceness hiding under the surface. The male stars, Seth Rogen and Zac Efron strut their stuff with ease but the comedic star for me is Aussie, Rose Byrne. She simply has fabulous timing (you may have caught her in Get Him to the Greek and last year’s The Internship).
BTW – if you are looking for other reviews online, the movie was released in the US with the title Neighbors and internationally as Bad Neighbours – perhaps the distributors wanted to avoid confusion with our Neighbours in Ramsay Street, who are absolutely perfect compared to this lot.
The official synopsis is “a couple with a new-born baby face unexpected difficulties after they are forced to live next door to a fraternity house.” Yep, that pretty much sums up the plot… just add mirth and mayhem for 97 minutes and stir.
If you would like a pre/post movie drink, snack or meal or, indeed, a comfy room for the night, Rydges Campbelltown will look after you.
