When it comes to Melbourne chef, Ben Shewry, it is a case of His Kitchen Rules. In the week when Adelaide Mums took out first place in My Kitchen Rules, Ben was in London picking up an award for running the kitchen in Australasia’s top restaurant, Attica.
Personally, we believe Melbourne’s two top restaurants are the Locanda Italian Steakhouse at Rydges Melbourne and Blue’s Restaurant at Rydges on Swanston BUT to give praise where it is due – for the second year running, Attica Restaurant in Ripponlea was named Australasia’s top restaurant, coming in at number 37 in the World’s 50 Best Restaurants 2014. The annual list has been compiled by the votes from 900 industry experts since 2002.
Here is a link to Attica’s website. If you would like to sample what Attica has to offer, they have a Chef’s Table Menu on Tuesday nights. Ben and the team in the kitchen take this opportunity to create and test new ideas in a five course degustation menu priced at $125 per person. Wine matches are also available for an additional $70 per person. There is also an eight course degustation menu for $190 per person with an additional $115 for accompanying wines.
You probably guessed by the above paragraph that Attica isn’t exactly cheap and, by the photo, that Ben and his team are doing things a little differently. And just because we can, here's a link to the terrific set menu at Rydges Locanda (two courses $39, three courses $49).
Hmm… just realised that with the simple swap of a vowel, MKR’s Pete and Manu become Pate and Menu.
