THE RYDGES POST
Here are the Australian and New Zealand concert dates for former Jethro Tull front man Ian Anderson’s Down Under tour in December.
Tickets have only been on sale for about 10 days and already some concerts have sold out. In April this year, Ian Anderson officially put Jethro Tull to rest, allocating the musical legacy to the historical musical archives. That’s not to say he won’t be performing some of the old stuff, just that, as he put it, in his twilight years he wants to stick his bald head up and be known as Ian Anderson, not Mr J Tull. He is the only original member of Tull and as the songwriter and driving force, he can do as he jolly well likes. Interesting to note that, as Ian Anderson, he is nominated for three UK Progressive Rock Awards in 2014.
The dates and venues for the Ian Anderson and his Band tour are:
December 11, Sydney Opera House
December 13, QPAC Concert Hall Brisbane
December 15, Palais Theatre, St Kilda in Melbourne
December 17/18, Isaac Theatre Royal in Christchurch
December 19, St James Theatre, Wellington
December 20/21 Civic Theatre, Auckland
Now aged 66, he has an amazing back catalogue, lots of current creativity and a tight little band. In his non-music down time, Ian is a proper English gentleman with a touch of eccentricity – he lives on an estate in Wiltshire (with a house in Switzerland), owns several trout farms, writes about Indian cuisine, collects Leica cameras and campaigns to protect wild cats, the homeless and potential sufferers of deep vein thrombosis (which he survived).
If you are travelling to see the legendary Mr Anderson, Rydges can look after your accommodation needs in Sydney at Rydges World Square, Rydges Sydney Central, Rydges North Sydney or Rydges Sydney Airport… in Melbourne at Rydges Melbourne or Rydges on Swanston… and, in Brisbane, across the road from QPAC at Rydges South Bank. In New Zealand there’s Rydges Latimer in Christchurch, Rydges Wellington and Rydges Auckland.
