Arj Barker could easily lay claim to being Australia’s favourite American comedian, having appeared on many of our comedy game and variety shows like Thank God You’re Here and headlining our comedy festivals throughout his career. You can catch him on November 4 at the Goldfields Arts Centre.
It looks like his playing Dave in the Flight of the Conchords, a show with a distinctly anti-Australian slant, was very much tongue in cheek. Arj has spent more time touring here than anywhere else, so much so that the Californian born comedian has decided to call Australia home and has settled on a farm near Byron Bay.
There has been a subtle evolution in Arj’s comedy over the years - from a slacker’s perspective on marijuana, the internet and texting to covering more serious issues such as global warming, feminism and politics - still with the same hilarious absurdist style.
Arj refers to Go Time as “what audiences expect from me and the last thing they expect from me, which if my calculations are correct will make for a great show”.
