You can catch James Morrison and his Big Band at the Concourse with the Chatswood High Band and Hetty Kate on Wednesday, August 13.
As they say, “Step back in time for a toe-tapping, finger-snapping musical treat with international trumpet maestro James Morrison and his Big Band as they bring big band swing classics to life…”
Acclaimed internationally as a solo performer, James has also toured and performed with jazz legends including Don Burrows, Dizzy Gillespie, Ray Charles, B.B. King as well as the London Symphony Orchestra.
James is a true virtuoso. He is known as a trumpet-playing genius but he also plays trombone, euphonium, flugel horn, tuba, saxophones, double bass, guitar and piano. If he could be cloned he would be able to form his own Big Band.
Born in Boorowa NSW, James was given his first instrument at age seven and he formed his first band at age nine. At thirteen he was playing professionally in nightclubs and at age 16 he wowed US audiences with a breathtaking performance at the Monterey Jazz Festival.
Recently James recorded the Big Band CD Snappy Too with Jeff Hamilton (video below), was the Artistic Director of the Queensland Music Festival and conducted the World’s Largest Orchestra at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane (7223 musicians!).
At this concert expect heap of Big Band classics made famous by the greats like Glenn Miller, Duke Ellington, George Gershwin and Frank Sinatra.
If you are coming from out of town, Rydges North Sydney is handy to the Concourse at Chatswood.
