THE RYDGES POST
Historic Roto House Port Macquarie is in the heart of town (Lord Street) in the Macquarie Nature Reserve. These are glorious gardens to enjoy a picnic in and the Koala Hospital is also here so there’s every chance you will spot some furry little critters up in the trees.
Historical Roto House (1891) is a beautiful eleven room timber home and a stunning example of Victorian architecture and craft. The house originally belonged to surveyor John Flynn and it was fully restored in the 1980’s by the National Parks and Wildlife Service. It really is a delight and it takes no great mental leap to imagine living there over a century ago.
Guided tours are available between 10:00am and 4:30pm every day, unless they aren’t. You see, the tours are operated by Friends of Roto House volunteers and there may be the occasional time when volunteers aren’t available – but it is such a lovely place to experience, chances are you’ll find someone there. Entry is by a gold coin donation.
The Koala Hospital is open from 8:00am to 4:30pm every day with feeding tours at 3:00pm.
