What are they thinking? The visiting English cricket team is obviously an army that marches on its stomach – in its quest to retain the Ashes on Aussie home soil the Poms have presented the tour organisers with an 82 page list of culinary requirements and recipes. No bangers & mash, pies with mushy peas or roast with Yorkshire pudding on this tour! The 194 requested dishes include:

Quinoa, Cranberry and Feta Salad

Butternut Squash and Falafel Coronation

Mung Bean Curry with Spinach Pistachio

Roasted Vegetable and Halloumi Kebabs with Red Pepper Dip

Piri-piri Breaded Tofu with Tomato Salsa

Pumpkin Seed and Goji Berry Bar

Cherry Fig and Almond Breakfast Bar

Honey Soy and Roasted Chicken Breasts with Pak Choi and Ginger

Ginger and Garlic Prawn Kebabs with Garlic Mayonnaise

In case you’re wondering, according to Wikipedia, Quinoa is a species of goosefoot (Chenopodium), a grain-like crop grown for its edible seeds and is a pseudocereal rather than a true cereal. Makes me think that this may well be a team of pseudocricketers… or tossers rather than bowlers if you get my drift. We may have missed the mark with bat and ball on the last English tour, but when it comes to sledging, we only need a little bit of ammunition and the pumpkin seeds will be hitting the cranberry fan in no time if there is the slightest chink in the English armoury.
