Wow! Tasmania is home to Sullivan’s Cove Single Malt Whisky and it has just been judged the world’s best. Lovers of single malts will know of some of Scotland’s finest distilleries, like Bunnahabain, Aberfeldy, Glenkinchie and Glenlivet and they were all there for the tasting.

This win was no fluke – in the past Sullivan’s has won the best Australian, best Australasian and Best Southern Hemisphere Single Malt but to take out the global award really puts their whisky making skills and the natural resources of Tasmania on the world whisky map.

The World Whiskies Awards were held in London and the judges described the French Oak Cask entry as "light, peppery and intriguing", "a match made in heaven with a smooth buttery feel" and "keeping it simple in a very good way".

Now, the main reason for the post… the winning drop came from barrel number 625 and all but three bottles of the 516 produced have hit the shops (those three remaining are now worth more than recommended retail) – we notice that Dan Murphy’s has it in stock but has no reference to the barrel number – could be worth nipping in to see if you can score a much appreciated Christmas present for that someone special in your life… you!

Of course, if you want to visit the distillery in person, Rydges Hobart can look after all your accommodation needs.
