The Darwin Festival 2014The Darwin Festival 2014 is from August 7 to 24. Australia’s most northern and only tropical arts festival. It was born following the devastation of Cyclone Tracy that tore through the city in December 1974. For many it was a toss-up whether to abandon or rebuild… In 1977 the NT Director of Health, Dr Charles Gurd, suggested celebrating those who displayed the courage and optimism to rebuild with a festival and it continues to go from strength to strength.

The Festival features concerts, workshops, theatre, dance, music, comedy, cabaret, film and visual arts over 18 exciting days and nights. One highlight this year will be Soweto Gospel Choir and another is a once-in-a-lifetime theatrical experience that is guaranteed noit to go as rehearsed called 100% Darwin.

100 Darwinians from various walks of life representing the demographic make-up of Darwin will take to the stage. They will share intimate stories from their lives and answer questions about their habits, beliefs and lifestyles. Forget reality television, this is reality reality – a live, interactive human opinion poll, supported by local band, Dave Spry and The Higher Moral Ground and big screen graphics.

Who believes in life after death? Who has got a weapon at home? Who has a crush on one of the other 99 on stage? What will these people reveal about themselves, the city and those in the audience. Imaginative in conception and real in presentation this promises to be an unforgettable and thought-provoking experience.
