Concert ian 7/7/2014

When Jethro Tull front man Ian Anderson announced in April that Jethro Tull was no more some fans thought he was selling out - not so, it so happens that Ian Anderson has sold out. For four of his five New Zealand concerts in December, that is...

Ian Anderson's Down Under TourYes, final proof that the die-hard Tull fans have known all along - that Anderson, as songwriter, singer, flautist, guitarist, mandolinist, humourist etc etc WAS Jethro Tull no matter how strong the band lineup may have been.

According to Mr Anderson he decided, at age 66, that in his twilight years he wanted to be known by his own name, not as Mr Tull or Jethro. He still has a great little band behind him and he will still continue to perform Tull classics like Aqualung, Locomotive Breath, and Thick as a Brick but now if, when and how he sees fit. 2014 is shaping up as a rewarding year for Anderson - he has been nominated for three British Prog Rock Awards, April saw the release of his sixth solo album, Homo Erraticus and he is selling out on his world tour.

The New Zealand Tour dates are December 17 and 18 in Christchurch (Isaac Theatre Royal), December 19 in Wellington (St James Theatre) and December 20 and 21 in Auckland (Civic Theatre) - all shows apart from the second Auckland show have sold out, which begs the question, what is the point of even slightly promoting the tour? Well, we figure that with such popularity fans may be travelling from out of town and need somewhere to stay - and to that end, Rydges Latimer Christchurch and Rydges Wellington will make you welcome.

Too old to rock & roll? Never. He just does it with more style these days - have a look at this 2008 version of Life is a Long Song from 1972… Ah yes, age has not wearied him and the tune ends too soon for us all…
