Very Impressed

Have regularly stayed in all the Brisbane Rydges Hotels, however our overnight on Friday 12 October at Southbank was one of our most memorable. Smooth check-in and check-out and bonus upgrade allowed us to experience a suite which was just fabulous. The room presentation, decor, provisions, appearance was very impressive; so much so we just had to open that bottle of bubbles in the fridge to celebrate our arrival and our upgrade.

Rydges Southbank good location, large rooms, unfortunately below average service

Great location, good size rooms. As we had an interconnected room we unfortunately had noisy neighbours who would come back to room late each night and talk loudly. Not Rydges fault but something to keep in mind. Housekeeping very friendly but we found front reception to be abrupt and not friendly.The first day we checked in, I went to open the sliding wardrobe and the wheel came off and door fell towards me. Fortunately it wasn’t my kids! I called immediately, reception said they would send maintenance but no one ever came. On check out -reception tried to charge me for a takeaway cup from mini bar, no idea what this was, and def did not take or use one. I didn’t appreciate reception tone or insinuating I had taken it. We will stay at Novotel or Mantra again but won’t stay at this Rydges.

I was really disappointed tbh. My partner and I regularly stay at hotels in Brisbane for weekends away and Rydges was by far the most disappointing experience. The check in was average and we only received one discount drink card which we later went to use at the bar and was advised promptly by a little upstart serving at the bar that we could only get one free drink ... we then had dinner in the cafe downstairs near the bar area and purchased the most saddest looking cheese platter for $20 with I dried fig and 3 shrivelled up apricots and not even remotely enough crackers to eat with the cheese. Check out was just as bad... our car seemed to not arrive and then the concierge appeared to get testy at my partner and I .. as if it were somehow our fault. $40 for parking overnight as well!! Then the 3 men working in the valet parking area watched as I carried 3 big bags to my vehicle without any of them even so much as offering to help. Overall very disappointed with my experience. It’ll be the last time I stay there.

We had a wonderful stay at Rydges in Brisbane.

I couldn't fault our stay at Rydges in South Bank. The room was clean and comfortable. Breakfast was delicious. Staff were all friendly and helpful. We had a slight hiccup at the end of our stay when our car battery was flat and the staff were more than helpful, they looked after us and sorted out the problem. Thank you.

Room Allocation was inadequate

Service was good, concierge was very good. I normally do not complain about minor details, however on this occasion, I have a gripe for a number of reasons. Firstly the room allocated to me on the first floor beside the pool and entertainment area was very unacceptable to me. I had a choice to stay elsewhere for less money than the fees you were charging me on this visit and I was given the worst room available (location wise), The following day I asked if I could be moved to another area of the hotel away from the pool and entertainment area and was told by your front desk person (can't remember her name) that I would have to pay an additional $40 a night. I found this unacceptable considering I stay there 3 to 4 nights every month and have been doing so for a number of years, let alone staying at your affiliate hotels around the country. My working day starts with me having to rise about 5:00 a.m. and being a reasonably light sleeper, all the noise emanating from the entertainment area till 12:00 midnight kept me awake. My stay is for business not a holiday. My preference in my profiles is for a quiet room. On this occasion I did not get a quiet room and your staff member did not attempt to adequately accommodate a loyal and long serving customer. Most disappointed. Regards George.

Convenient location, great transport links and a friendly place to stay.

The staff were welcoming, friendly and helpful. Great location when arriving by airport link train- just remember that it’s better to get off at South Brisbane and not South Bank. Close to a huge variety of eateries, South Bank parklands itself and the theatre complex- you don’t need a car and even the city is only a 15 min walk across the river.

Surprisingly Special!

3 friends of 45 years revisiting their teenage times by attending "Beautiful. The Carol King Story". Rydges South Bank made it memorable with a fabulous room, exceptional service and the perfect location for QPAC. Pre theatre Champagne in Soleil, the roof top bar was an excellent way to start. Albeit a little chilly the numerous heaters made for a cosy experience. A 5 minute walk had us at the show with time to spare. Walking home saw us having a nightcap in a bar close to the hotel. Quite a few in this buzzing area. Breakfast was outstanding! So many choices with friendly staff bringing your freshly made coffee. Thank you for our tasting plate of handmade chocolates to commemorate our " Beautiful" experience. All 3 of us have now changed our previous Brisbane hotels to Rydges as our destination in the CBD. We will be most definitely recommending it to family & friends

Brilliant location & service

Travelled to Brisbane for a concert at the Exhibition Centre and stayed here for 2 nights in a river view room. Fantastic location for restaurants and sightseeing. Had breakfast in the hotel cafe downstairs both days and thought it was great value. Brisbane CBD is a 20 minute walk across the river and we spent the day walking the whole CBD & Southbank areas. The river view room was modern, clean and very quiet. Would definitely stay here again.

Very Pleasant Stay

I rented two rooms for myself, daughter and grandson. The rooms were very comfortable and we had a nice view from the 11th floor. Great location in Southbank. My grandson enjoyed the big park and swimming lagoon, my daughter and I enjoyed the local restaurants and the hotel is within walking distance of the Lyric Theatre where we say Aladdin and the museums. Awesome Hotel! Incredibly friendly staff.

Myself and my son who is confined to a motorised wheelchair can’t speak highly enough of this hotel. We have stayed here for many years as my son often has medical appointments requiring stays in the city. The staff bend over backwards to ensure that we always have the best possible stay. Nothing is too much trouble, they have even assisted in helping me to fix my sons wheelchair and the various equipment that he requires. The wheelchair accessible room is very spacious, the bathroom is terrific and the staff even switch out the bed legs to enable my sons hoist to fit under the bed. We had a family wedding to attend a couple of years ago over the north side of Brisbane and concierge even organised a wheelchair accessible vehicle through their chauffeur service to transport us there and back! Nothing is ever too much trouble and we would highly recommend this hotel to anyone who may have limited mobility or special needs, we can’t speak highly enough and always look forward to returning! We recommend this hotel and their staff at every opportunity.

Short Stay with great memory

Our recent stay (22nd April) to celebrate our 40th Anniversary was simply great! Well appointed room with great views of the city and in an ideal location. And although very busy staff in all departments where very polite, friendly and helpful. Special mention the front desk lady's on checkout for the way in which they handled an issue with a gift sent by a friend to help us celebrate. Luxury

Talk about Luxury! Upon arrival an attendant parks your car and helps with your luggage, which is followed by a very welcoming reception that couldn't be any more helpful! The accommodation can not be faulted and the atmosphere is excellent! The flexibility of being able to order dinner after an event at 1130pm is faultless! One of my best hotel experiences in Australia

This is the second time that I have stayed at the Rydges South Bank hotel. The staff are always friendly and helpful, the pool and pool bar was very relaxing, sufficient gym, spa and sauna area and good food options for lunch and dinner. The rooms are spacious, modern, and the bed was very comfortable. On my first stay early to mid 2017, I thought that the breakfast buffet had some Asian noodles and some other hot dishes besides the normal hot breakfast, however the breakfast this time was still very good, especially the bacon. I will definitely recommend to anyone who is looking for a hotel conveniently located to all areas of Brisbane whether it is for business or on holidays. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay and had 2 business colleges stay on Monday the 16th as well and this was based on my first stay in 2017. FABULOUS! Even extended our stay another night!

My Mum and I stumbled across Rydges hotel South Bank in Brisbane and thank goodness we did! We loved it. We even extended our stay another night because it was that good. We had checked out of another hotel due to poor service and abuse, which claimed to be five star, but truly they don't know five star until they learn from Rydges South Bank! From the seamless check in and out process, to the exceptional fine dining experience at Bacchus Restaurant (we had dinner and two breakfasts there it was that good) to the spectacular city and river views, I now have found my hotel of choice in Brisbane. The location and décor is stunning, the customer service exceptional and the rooms well appointed with sumptuous beds to laze in. The staff even went out of their way to find out where I could purchase the artwork hanging in the lift area that I loved. I received a beautifully worded typed letter in an envelope under my door within hours with all the supplier's information. The restaurant staff were warm and welcoming and anticipated our needs and the food was beyond delicious. Rachelle the Supervisor at breakfast at Bacchus remembered us and our coffee and hot chocolate order from the day before and Costa and Kevin at dinner delivered the most exceptional service with a smile that I will never forget. Truly I can't fault the Rydges at South Bank. I travel a lot and Rydges exceeded all expectations and then some. Congratulations and thank you for making our stay so wonderful.

Enjoyed our stay at Rydges South Bank

Loved our corner suite. The bathroom was huge and view was so good. Bed super comfy and the room was cleaned to a very high standard each day. Didn't want to leave really! All the staff seemed so happy and I was particularly impressed with the attitude of the younger staff employed at the hotel. The pizza we had poolside on Friday night wasn't the best however the staff handled the situation well. They offered to make us another one but we declined the offer.

Always a great place to stay

I stay here for business through the year and this time was for fun - booked the mamma mia package. great room, fantastic show tickets !! couldn't believe how good the seats were, as always service is faultless and I love the valet parking. first time I have tried the pool bar - lovely on a sunny sunday afternoon, and we enjoyed the $50 voucher that was part of our package - and had a pizza and drinks.

We only stayed one night and our main purpose was to visit the art galleries. It was a bit of an unexpected hike in the heat. Wish we could have got a taxi there and back but the hotel was too close. The staff said it was an easy walk. Maybe for them, but some people are older and have mobility issues. I practically was crippled by the time we walked back and had to stay off my feet until the next day. The street outside (Gray St) is horrible. This leads to one complaint: that the CBD Cafe downstairs is open to the heat and noise ... why is it not enclosed? Surely one can expect air conditioning in the main cafe? The food was pretty good, but we just didn't want to be in there with the traffic roaring along outside not to mention the blurgh music over the loudspeaker. Mostly though everything in the hotel was really pretty nice. The beds were supercomfortable, the room was quiet, the airconditioning worked, the blockout blinds really did block out. Only other complaint was the room service food. The menu was limited and the food was pretty minimal and --- pet peeve --- why oh why when we order two pots of tea do we get two pots of not quite hot hot water and a couple of tea-bags!!! A pot of tea means leaf tea made in a pot - preferably using an infuser. You cannot expect people to pay that price for a pot of tepid water. A major disappointment was the horrible, small and busy swimming pool. The photos made it look like a real pool but it was more of a kiddie's dunking station. The noise around the bar was appalling. The luxury restaurant looked nice but the prices were ridiculous so we didn't bother. The hotel was pleasant enough but one would be hard-pressed to say it was really outstanding. The staff also had that kind of slow approach which is so annoying. They didn't seem all that excited to be doing their jobs. Overall, good value and a good price but could have just gone that extra step.

Location

I’ve stayed in the ryges many of times always clean and tidy, with great park service. It’s in a great location in Southbank Only thing I think needs improvement is the service at the desk. I have been over charged twice the first time some charged another families bar tab to my account and the second time I was charged twice for parking as someone had charged their second car to my room. The reception staff were not helpful on both occasions as I only found this out once I checked out and checked my on line banking. Always make sure you get receipt. I think you need to ask for proof of ID when people are adding stuff to their rooms or in both these cases someone else’s room. Other than that the hotel is great.

Very special getaway

We stayed at Ridges South Bank more than a few times now and every time we had very pleasant experience with our stays. Our life is very busy and sometimes we like to escape from everyday chores and have quiet time as a couple and Ridges didn’t disappoint. Staff is very friendly and attentive, rooms are quiet and clean. We especially want to say thank you to Bacchus maître d’hôtel Kevin ( not sure if spelling is correct ) he was so great!!! He made our dining unforgettable and the one to tell friends about. We defiantly will be back.

Great location and lovely hotel

The hotel is located a stones throw from Southbank where there are so many restaurants to choose from. There is a great Woolworths just up the street towards the Maritime Museum. We had a balcony with a beautiful view of the river. The hotel is very clean and the beds and pillows very comfy. Breakfast is well catered for with eggs cooked to your liking. Great fruit selection and a coffee machine which makes all different coffees. I would stay here again.

Such a great place to stay, modern, friendly, immaculate & convenient location.

We love our stays at the Rydges. It is family friendly, with kids catered for from family matters packages that include popcorn, ice creams, lollies & drinks delivered to our room for the kids. Room service has a kids friendly menu from vegemite sandwiches, burgers, nuggets, steak and more. The food at the Rydges is fabulous we love the Buffet Breakfast at Barrachas. The hotel & rooms are always immaculate, rooms are spacious, beds are very comfortable & the river views are beautiful especially at night. Staff are friendly & very helpful. Could not get a better location to Southbank parklands, restaurants, cinemas, Qpac, Convention Centre, GOMA, there is always something happening at Southbank. I cannot recommend this hotel highly enough.

60th Birthday Stay

Booked a King Suite for my 60th Birthday as we have stayed in one before. Found ourselves in room 514 which overlooked a carpark and the back foyer of the Brisbane Convention centre. Room was good but after paying top dollar and selecting views as our priority we were very disappointed. Checked in on line but found our room not ready when we arrived at 2.30pm and a very lengthy check in time of around 15 min. Was also surprised we were not told about the $40 fee to use the valet car parking when booking. Had friends staying in the same hotel and they were upgraded to a top floor room and given late checkout and it was my birthday they were there for! They checked in much later than us too. Room was well appointed and staff were good but overall very disappointed to not even be able to glimpse the river. I rated it satisfactory because of the nice room but to be truthful, it wasn't satisfactory at all.

MY BRISBANE EXPERIENCE

First point of contact was the Concierge, who I found over the 3 - 4 days, unbelievably courteous, helpful and professional. Front Desk Personnel - Yulianna ( excuse the spelling), and Amy, the Senior Duty Manager, were outstanding in every way. Definite asset to the establishment. Street side Café - person in there exceptionally good and special mention to Vitas' ( excuse spelling once again) service who I found exceptional. Housekeeping staff extremely pleasant and accommodating. I found your 'going green', in accommodation, a great idea. Overall, I felt extremely comfortable and welcome. A credit to the Management for a well trained crew!! Thankyou.

We could not fault the service we received

We have stayed at rydges Southbank on numerous occasions and have always found the service to be first class The front desk staff are very friendly and go out of their way to make you welcome. On our last stays we were given an upgrade which was very much appreciated. I have now reached the black status on my priority membership which will give me even greater benefits. I would recommend this hotel to anyone

Luxury

My partner and my 2 children enjoyed a 2 night stay at Rydges Southbank Sunday and Monday. We had a very enjoyable stay here. The beds were the most comfortable we have slept in and furniture is all nice and new. They have big new wide screen Samsung LED Tv with foxtel channels and are very reasonably priced for a luxurious Hotel. The staff are always very friendly and attentive espesially Jordan the bar manager upstairs in the pool bar outside. My young daughter was very impressed with the Mock-tail Jordan wipped up for her. I look forward to staying here again next time we spend a weekend in Brisbane. Thank You Rydges for your hospitality.

Fantastic short stay!

We had a fantastic three night stay. So convenient and close to all the attractions we were wanting to see. The room was very clean and well appointed. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We dined at Bacchus for breakfast and found the food to be well cooked and prepared with a great variety. We also had dinner at CBD one evening where the service was great and the food was very nice and reasonably priced. All in all a great time had by all!

Most enjoyable

Rydges Southbank is a lovely hotel in a great City location 2 minute walk to Southbank and City centre. Very efficient and friendly staff. The rooms are well appointed, good sized, exceptionally clean and comfortable. There is never a complaint with this hotel, I have stayed on numerous occasions over a 5 year period and it is always consistent, has never dated and in excellent condition. Bacchus Restaurant is amazing. Only one suggestion, if the kitchen could do more vegetarian dishes would be amazing. A suggestion would be Yotam Ottolenghi. This would make this hotel incredible.

Exceptional Service , Venue and Food

We stayed 4 nights in a Junior Suite and can absolutely recommend Rydges Southbank to anyone who appreciates great service, delicious food and a fabulous room. We dined at Bacchus for both Dinner and Breakfast and can honestly say it has been the best Hotel we have experienced in a long time. As part of a 3 week trip we stayed at a Stamford Melbourne and the Lakehouse in Daylesford and although both were good we can honestly say the Rydges matched them both for food & accommodation but the Rydges Service ( from front door through to housekeeping) blew us away with their professionalism, service and willingness to make a difference! WELL DONE!

Overnight stay

Excellent hotel for the business traveler. Front desk staff friendly and efficient. Free good strength WiFi in rooms. Desk set up has lots of plugs for charging devices and and desk lamp really useful when working at night. Loved all the options for lights in the bathroom - lovely and bright to put your on makeup. Reception and concierge always stand out

Concierge is the reason I stay with you! Such a luxury having the car parked and luggage taken to my room, and all by friendly, courteous and knowledgeable staff. Reception staff were excellent, and the breakfast at Bacchus and good as ever, but sadly the service is always the weak spot apart from the chef who makes fabulous omelettes and is friendly. Staff in the restaurant are not as friendly as they could be and they didn't clear our plates away at all as our table filled up with dirty crockery.

Our Stay was very good as usual.

Staying at Rydges is always a great experience. I would, however, like to share something. I was booking for the school holidays so got in very early and booked so as not to miss out. It was the best package I could get for one adult and three children so I thought. Once April holidays hit, Rydges was advertising Easter Holiday packages and April packages and family packages. I was really disappointed that, as a returning customer, the same wasn't offered to me.

A very pleasant stay at Southbank Brisbane

In Brisbane for a family function and spent a night at the Rydges Southbank. Staff were very welcoming and check in a breeze. Stayed on the 6th floor with very good views of CBD and river. Breakfast on the podium level was complimentary as an April special and offered a full buffet - with a staff member cooking eggs to individual order. Room was very clean and would recommend a night at the Rydges. Very reasonably priced.

Absolutely lovely

We had a wonderful time. The staff were all friendly and had great customer service. The accommodation type we choose was exactly as the pictures advertised (King Suite). It was a fresh, clean, comfortable room and lovely atmosphere. Beautiful sized bathroom with really nice toiletries. Breakfast had a great variety and was delicious. The lovely lady chief made an omelette to die for. The location of the hotel is so central to everything that Southbank has to offer. We will definitely be staying again and again at Rydges Southbank.

great service

Stayed at Rydges for two nights, I arrived and found that travel agent had booked in wrong nights. Staff very helpful and luckily they found an alternative room without any problems. Rooms service was polite efficient , I had ordered and then needed to cancel, without any problem (as they hadn't started cooking) but again didn't make me feel bad. I also sought toothpaste which i had forgotten and it was delivered to the room very quickly. all in all one of the better experiences, i did have trouble logging onto the wifi, I didn't resolve what the problem was ie whether it was my equipment or the site.

Mostly average service

Staff at reception for check in we're very slow and mildly unpleasant. I requested a view room, my view was a brick wall and a corner of the Brisbane eye. The coffee at CBD cafe was so terrible. It tasted like long life milk and barely any coffee, I ended up throwing 7/8ths of it away. On checkout I asked for recommendation to get fresh juice, the reception staff sent me on a wild goose chase. Don't recommend something if you don't know! I did like the new foyer and the concierge was lovely.

Great Venue, Location & Service

Venue, location and service were all excellent. Staff are very professional and Kate the event manager was exceptional. The room was spacious with a well appointed fit-out and extremely comfortable beds. We really enjoyed our stay and would recommend! The only suggestions I would make for the next renovation is in the bathroom: - hang the toilet roll holder either beside or in front instead of behind, - different type of basin so you can get your hands under the tap, and - wider shower screen / better falls & drainage. Now matter how hard we tried, we could not keep the water in the shower. Thanks for a great stay!

Beautiful, clean and modern hotel with lovely staff.

This is a great hotel to stay with the family. Easy walk to South Bank and public transport. The service from staff is nothing short of attentive and friendly, a pleasant change to the general lack of customer service experienced these days. We have stayed a couple times now with young children and will always stay here for future trips to Brisbane. The room was clean and the bathroom was very functional. The only negative is the expense, but well worth it I guess to get great service and a clean room.

Good space with a significant issue...

The staff were pleasant and the facilities satisfactory; however, I had one significant issue...I could hear the adjoining room's television right through the wall. It was turned off by about 10:30 but I was debating at that point whether I should knock on the door or call the front desk. By that time I was stressed over it and subsequently didn't have a very good night's sleep. This is something that should have been thought of or addressed when the hotel was built as noise transmission is really a primary thing in hotel rooms.

Brilliant

Everything was great from start to finish. Check in and check out were quick and easy, service was friendly and the rooms were clean and spacious and the bed was extremely comfortable. We did a package deal which included a 2 course dinner at the Bacchus restaurant and also a buffet breakfast. The dinner was out of this world, we thoroughly enjoyed every mouthful of each course and the service was outstanding. The buffet breakfast was lovely with a large amount to choose from for all palates, everything was very fresh and again, the service was great. All in all, we will definately return hopefully in the near future.

A welcoming stay

I've stayed here before and enjoyed the location for it's convenience and the neighbourhood. I arrived early and the room wasn't ready - which is standard for hotels, but staff were welcoming, and after a reminder at 2.00, were able to give me the room key. Since my last stay, the rooms have been refurbished and are of a very high standard. The restaurant was full and a table not ready for 3/4 hour, but the hostess made an effort to get me seated earlier. As usual, the restaurant service was excellent and the food very nice indeed - with exciting and innovative flavours featuring. On returning to my room I discovered a complimentary bottle of wine had been left - and I greatly appreciated the thought. I recommend Southbank Rydges to anyone who tells me they are coming to Brisbane. A high quality stay.

Mixed feelings.

I phoned to book in late in the afternoon, giving the information that we weren't far away. Approximately 15 - 20 mins later I was at reception, the young girl couldn't find my booking so she went off through a door and I waited, finally she came back and asked if I had only just booked in, yes I had phoned through not long before coming in, oh so off she went again, then this time when she came back a phone rang and she answered it, spoke for a few minutes and went off to deal with whatever the phone call had been about, the man next to her asked if I was okay and I said I wasn't sure, he said oh she will be back and continued serving more people. Meanwhile someone came and put a piece of torn off notepaper on the reception desk which I could see had all my details on it including my credit card number. So this time when she came back I drew her attention to the paper and said there are my details. All this time I had found it extremely difficult to understand anything she said due to her accent and soft voice. Finally she had me on the system and asked for my email address, I said it is on the piece of paper. I was by this time pretty annoyed at the long wait, difficulty in understanding her and at seeing my details on a scrap piece of paper. Surely in this day and age bookings are input straight to the system while speaking to the person. Did I want two keycards?? yes I did, I noticed that the man beside her had not once asked this question of anyone but automatically given them two. Finally on our way up to the room, opened the door and the bar fridge door was wide open, hence the fridge and its contents were room temperature, I could not be bothered alerting the staff. Next morning we went to have a cup of tea, there was either black tea or chamomile!! I drink Earl Grey, a fairly common tea. The black teabags looked like they had been around for a few months, my husband persevered with a cup but after one sip, poured it out. Absolutely disgusted with the choice and condition of the tea bags. Lets have a cup of coffee, oh wait there is only three pods and one of them is decaffeinated, should have brought our own Nespresso pods so we could at least have a decent cup of coffee. On the up side the bed was very comfortable and the location is great.

A nice short get away with my husband.

The hotel, staff and all amenities were nice, clean and well presented. The only real disappointment was that upon arrival we were told and stung with a $30 a night charge to park our car. At no time during our booking process, looking over room rates etc were we told that there would be a $30 charge per night for parking. All we were told was that parking was available to guest, nothing saying that there would be extra charges for the privilege of staying at the hotel. If we knew our stay was going to cost $30 extra a night to park our car, we probably would have looked for alternate accommodation or a least looked for somewhere with a better room rate. Your customers should be made aware of any charges which you intend to charge them, especially as we I did ask the person which I booked with if parking was available and they said yes, however seemed to forget to mention the $30 a night charge. My husband was not to impressed with his first impression of the hotel when we arrived and he was told this. Will we stay again, the jury is still out. Maybe our comments can help you not get the next unsuspecting customer an unexpected charge upon there arrival at your hotel. I would recommend your hotel, but I will more diligent in the questions I ask when booking my next hotel stay.

lovely hotel the only thing would like to have drink before dinner at pool bar but was close from 6pm for function and on Sunday morning went for swim at 8.30 and there were no towels and no staff around to ask for some. On down side my parents had a great room but were kept awake from noise from next room via connecting door not happy , spoke to reception next day and they did complementary breakfast for them very happy would also be nice if did special price for guests as we would of liked all of us to be together but could not afford it

Great, Accomodating and Flexible.

From front desk's suggestion to swim at the hotel pool or Park Land's man made beach instead of the dirty Brisbane River, to the breakfast each morning, to the increase in room occupancy at the late hour plus the special access to Brisbane Conference Center - everything was grand. A fantastic place to stay!

I recently stayed at Rydges on Swanson in Melbourne while I was on holiday for a week or so and it was a very disappointing stay, to say the least. I had heard that Rydges was a fantastic hotel so I was slightly confused, but wanted to stay a second time at another establishment just to be sure. WOW was I surprised when I stepped foot into South Bank Rydges! The lobby was clean and shiny, and staff were wonderful and all greeted me, as well as the check in being fast and easy. The horrible experience I had at Swanston was still in the back of my mind as I walked into my room though, but as soon as I swung that door open it all disappeared. I am the type of customer who will look for faults in a room, it's just the way I am, and needless to say I could find NONE! Your housekeeping staff have an eye for detail that I admire and the room was absolutely immaculate; the impression was good enough that I was about ready to book a second night and extend my weekend! I ordered room service at some ungodly hour and the response was prompt and fed my craving for potato wedges thoroughly. For the price that I paid at your hotel, I feel as though it was an absolute steal. This hotel was an amazing experience from start to finish and I would've happily paid more. Great hotel, poor customer service in the pool bar

Loved the location, quick check in, easy parking and valet service, great rooms. Nice pool and bar but the pool was closed for maintenance, very disappointing. The staff at the pool bar was very arrogant. There were 4 people behind the bar at 11:45am and i came with my friends to have some drinks and nibbles, they made me wait until 12pm to order a beer, they didn't come to me to take the order, 4 people were just standing there inside the bar and i was the only client outside waiting to have my drink! Poor service! Not what you expected from a 5 star hotel!

Great Venue

Such a lovely hotel, modern rooms and so comfortable, not sure about the furniture in the dining area though lol. Bit 70's but the food was good and the variety was great. One little thing to keep in mind is the air freshener smell that is around the foyer area, very overpowering and caused me to have a headache but apart from that, I would stay there again.

We had attended our son's graduation at Qpac in the morning followed by a long late lunch with his friends. Our check in was quick which was great as we were pretty worn out. The room was good, balcony excellent and the bathroom was nice. We were pleased to have access to a good room service menu as we didn't want to leave when we arrived. The late check out meant we could enjoy a late breakfast before going to Matilday on Friday at 1 pm. We were also very happy to be allowed to leave our car until Matilday finished so we didn't have to move the car again, the additional $10 was a great deal. It was all the little extra things that made the stay so comfortable. Thank you

Best Service Ever!

Great Service

The staff were so understanding and helpful, when I had to be hospitalized, and helped us extend our checkout time without any drama or additional charge. The only thing I would say, is that ti would be great to have an area around the pool where you could lay on deck chairs, as opposed to just sit at bar chairs. But overall, great staff, and lovely rooms.

A little disappointing

I had the feeling that the experience could have been better. I didn't think the check in staff were overly welcoming. I did ask for a room with view and got a room against the railway line on the first floor. Every time I have stayed at Rydges South Bank, i have had the room near the train track. I know the hotel was busy that weekend, but no one explained to me why we didn't get a room with a view. Why do ask for preferences on the check in and not deliver without an explanation. I wasn't asked if I wanted a newspaper each morning.. I did ask at the desk the day before for the Courier Mail and The Australian on Saturday and only had the CM delivered. I didn't get a paper on Sunday. We left the tag to make up the room when we went out at 11:30am approximately and it wasn't done when we came back at 1:45pm. We had ask again at 2pm. Generally I didn't get a good vibe. The room was good, the bed was excellent and the room was well appointed except the TV would freeze for 5 minutes sometimes when it started up and you wanted to change channels. Its sound was also muffled because the speakers seemed to in a box or something. So overall not the total experience we had hoped for our special weekend. I'm happy to speak further if someone wants to call me.

A pretty good experience overall.

We were quite impressed with the decor of the room - refurb looks fabulous however, we had a significant problem/issue with the shower. Within minutes of turning on the water, the bathroom was flooded and spilled out to the front door. We called reception for extra towels to mop up the water which did happen but we were not offered another room or any type of apology so had to endure floods each time we showered. It felt like they had received calls like this before and couldn't get us off the phone quick enough. Maybe a known issue. I did mention this at check out too, the response was that she would do a maintenance request and have the problem looked at. "Lucky there was no one in that room on Sunday night." I was a little disappointed about having to deal with a faulty bathroom during our stay but I guess it was manageable. On the positive, the coffee from the Bar downstairs was lovely, the view of the river from our room was awesome and the concierge staff were absolutely fantastic! It was wonderful to be greeted and farewelled by the same staff member who was working his butt off in the heat - I wish I had his name to recommend for a staff member award. (Young fellow with short brown hair who drove our car back from the parking area - charcoal coloured holden cruz)

The lift service was terrible and there were very noisy inconciderate guests on our floor

We were attending our son's wedding and the slow, packed lifts meant we lost precious time trying to get from accommodation and venue We do not feel we got the best deal on offer with $30 parking and no late check out offered The noise from other rooms on our floor meant that we were unable to get a good night's sleep. The clock by the bed also made a loud humming noise which I wass unable to turn off.

Room 601. First night the television in the bedroom would not work but the screen remained on and could not be turned off. Because the unit is recessed into the wall we could not turn off the power. Reported this to front desk next morning (Sunday) and was assured that fault would be rectified during the day. When we arrived back to room Sunday night it was obvious that someone had been but the screen was still alive and glowing. Covered the screen with a towel to help darken the room. Advised front desk when checking out that unit was still faulty. We found that the door handles in the unit were lethal, (they drew blood on both of us), especially the bathroom. The handles stick out further than normal and are of a square design that is very sharp. Last but not least, my wife was lost without a full length mirror, is there a good reason for not having one ?

I was very pleased.

Mostly good, the only gripes were that the room service phone took ages to answer, the concierge phone was not answered the one time I rang and room service delivered the wrong wine. I asked for two bottles of the same. We finished one and started on the other only to find it was red instead of white. I was put through the third degree, with the suggestion that somehow it was my fault, before the problem was fixed. Otherwise a pleasant three days. Found the loyalty discount to be very appealing.

The hotels refurbishment of its rooms and hallways is absolutely exceptional, up-to-date and very comfortable. Certainly well overdue so this is now a top class hotel in every aspect. Hard to fault and if there was one minor problem it is that the tap over the vanity basin is not into the basin far enough making it very difficult to even wash your hands, however this was the only minor downside which is not enough to make this even a negative. Huge congratulations, keep up the excellent standard. The restaurant is absolutely first-class and the unexpected small surprises throughout the meal make a massive difference. Don't change a thing!!!

Relatively good with a couple of exceptions

Good with the exception of being near the storage cupboard and hearing them at 5.00 - 6.00 in the morning. We also had a noise like the smoke detector beeping but couldnt work out where this was coming from. We did not tell reception about this. I also did the check in on-line from the email sent to us. We got confirmation via email 4.5 hours after we checked in that our room was ready and to have photo id! Overall we enjoyed our stay

Great site so close to the Southbank

Staff were really really helpful and friendly. Not understanding how the system worked, I am now shocked at the cost of breakfast - $38 for one piece of toast and scrambled egg and one coffee!! Room service was great, however and all the food I ordered in my room was prompt, hot and tasty. I loved the bathroom design and slept extremely well on the very comfortable bed.

Perfect Location to South Bank

Our daughter had her 17th Birthday party at the South Bank Surf Club in the function room on Saturday night and Rydges was only 2 minutes walk away which made it very convenient to stay at Rydges. The Front Desk were very friendly and helpful and so we booked in for another night. We were offered a buffet breakfast but when we got to Bacchus Restaruant at 10:03am, we were turned away as we were 3 minutes after their buffet breakfast closing time, which we were unaware of. If we knew we would have definitely arrived before the breakfast closing time of 10:00am. The valet and concierge desk was efficient and we didn't have to wait long before our belongings were delivered to the room and the views over the ferris wheel, southbank, river and city were tremendous. We stayed in a 'junior suite' which suited us and the two kids. Overall, a wonderful stay for our family and would recommend Rydges South Bank to all families.

Lynn and I appreciated the location, room cleanliness and soundproofing the room offered.

We stayed overnight to attend a concert at Qpac, something we will do again when we have the opportunity. We were unable to have dinner in your restaurant due to not making a booking but we did have a light breakfast in the coffee shop on ground level. Both Lynn and I had to find a toilet soon after. I only had coffee and toast. Lynn had coffee and eggs on toast. We appreciated the off street parking that was available and the ability to park my motorcycle as well.

Relaxing and well equiped room to come back to after spending hours in the nearby hospital.

Loved the new modern appearance to the kind suites. We stayed last year and much prefer the new layout and features. We appreciate your staff being kind enough to leave our car parked after checkout whilst our son needed testing in Lady Cilento Hospital. This saved us much stress and extra money in hospital parking. Only issue we raised was the smoke alarm in our room (914) was making a low level beep/click every 5 seconds or so above the bed but no one turned up as promised to look at it. We'll definitely be back!

Nice location and tidy

The hotel was tidy. However the room we checked in to had water near the bathroom and after unpacking we had to move rooms late in the evening which made a late night. The room we then checked in to had a great view. However we had bad luck and the refrigerator wasn't working. We rang guest services and it was replaced in the morning. The rooms are very nice and the view is spectacular. Buffet breakfast was nice. The manager was very helpful with the room problems. However was stressful moving rooms

Relaxing stay in elegant surroundings

Overall a lovely stay. Check-in was quick & easy. Our room (Junior Suite) was huge & very clean with a terrific view over South Bank. Our bags which we dropped earlier that morning were waiting for us in the room. The microwave & coffee machine were a bonus, although it would have been useful to have seen these inclusions on the website beforehand, and for there to have been bowls as well as plates in the cupboard. We took advantage of the $10 credit for no room cleaning which I thought said was to save the impact of chemicals, however I would really have liked to still have my bed made daily and toiletry & coffee supplies checked & replenished as needed. We didn't park at the hotel because the cost is much too high. Will definitely stay again.

Fabulous stay

I stayed at Rydges for a week whilst attending a conference. The location was perfect - not just for the convention centre, but also for dining, cultural centre, Southbank foreshore as well as acess to the city and train line. My room was welcoming, spacious and really great. No problems with the wifi. Room service food was exceptionally good. I'd definitely stay again.

Comfortable - excellent staff

This is a high quality hotel in the main conference / arts area of Brisbane. It is at the upper end in terms of lay out and general facilities. It lacks a proper swimming pool, but the gym is decent. Wifi and entertainment systems work well - especially like the bluetooth connection to speakers in each room. The only detractions are the randomness and shortage of lifts - I was staying on the first floor and would have appreciated some stairs rather than waiting for lifts. And everything closes down before 10pm - there is room service, but when you are jet lagged and want to go out and eat at 11pm, there is very little available. But the friendly and efficient staff make up for these minor points.

Felt misled and more should have been done to overcome the booking error.

First time I have ever complained. Used the website to redeem points and book a free night. Told at reception didn't happen and nothing to do with them? I had emailed reservations with what I thought was a pretty clear request for clarification. They left a message on my phone for me to ring them and I missed the message and actually had a few things going on. Think they should have called again and or replied to my email. I felt embarrassed at the counter and the only room was $271 so felt a bit misled. I probably would have booked a cheaper hotel. Been a good customer for many years and have never had this happen to me......left a feed back card and first time I haven't ticked excellent at a Rydges.

Excellent Weekend Away

We enjoyed one nights stay as part of a function that we attended and have to say the room was lovely, the service was great, the food at the function was delicious and we also enjoyed a little indulgence by selecting the strawberries dipped in choc and the cheese platter for the room. We also requested a bucket of ice at check in which arrive immediately as we entered the room. Very impressed.

Each time we have stayed with Rydges it has been a hassle free, stressless experience. The staff are always very friendly and willing to accommodate any needs that we have. Each time has been met with a special little something that we weren't expecting. Always a pleasure to return

Staff and facilities are top class. Recent renovations have freshened the hotel up nicely. Only criticism is that the new bathroom taps don't have enough clearance to sink. I am also having issues receiving emailed tax invoices. I am not receiving when they are being sent at checkout yet colleagues within my organization are having no issue. I am investigating on my side but would appreciate it if you could do likewise. I requested copies of receipts from last month a week or two ago and they were promptly sent however my request at the time for you to investigate was not responded to - essentially my email was received and receipts sent but the "issue" was not addressed. I also mentioned this at checkout last week and was told it would be looked at. With my company moving to an online expense portal this is becoming more important to me. There is no angst on my part but I really would appreciate some help solving this issue. Andrew

A positive experience in a beautifully appointed hotel, but you need to look after your conference patrons.

As part of the Dental Assisting & Beyond Conference planning committee, we requested a room with a view of the city but that didn't happen! In past years the conference has been held at the Sofitel, so when we chose Rydges this year we expected that the the service would go beyond the call to look after us in the same manner we had come to expect from the Sofitel. We know that everyone can't have the city view, but when a big function is booked and a special request is not followed through, it is disappointing.

when you are checking in online you offer requests, asked for a king bed, extra towels, and coffee machine. Had to ask for the extra towels as they were not given, think bed was a king but was advised that coffee machine is only for suites, if that's the case why was it offered to me to choose, you should add for suites only even though for the amount I paid for the room coffee machine would of topped it off, just a small thing other than that loved the room thought was very comfortable

Needs improvement

The room and facilities are really good, having attended a conference at the convention center the location and access was excellent. On the downside there were a number of areas where service needs significant improvement. Reception on check in was given very little information, I heard the receptionist who was serving someone else tell the guest all about the dining options, breakfast etc & where the pool, gym etc were located. But I got nothing when I asked I got one word answers. Figured I needed to work that out for myself then.! I dined in the room each night for dinner and ordered breakfast each morning. The first dinner took close to an hour to arrive, I ordered breakfast at the same time. Next morning no breakfast arrived when I chased it up now running late .. the order was "discovered" and delivered. Second dinner arrived in better time but was luke warm. Next breakfast ordered via the door knob, and it arrived the next morning and on time. Third dinner order took well over 40 mins to arrive and again was cold. Ordered breakfast again for next morning via door knob order. No breakfast arrived when I check the door knob order had not been taken ? - so again running late rang to order and thankfully arrived quickly. Last dinner order was the pizza sadly very disappointing hardly any topping, luke warm and basically unappetizing. I decided to order breakfast which by the way was the same each day just a fruit platter, at the same time as the pizza which did come so I had breakfast ready for the next day. The mini bar was restocked only twice I think, but not all things replaced. On the upside ! Concierge was excellent, very helpful. Receptionist on check out was very good. And over all I found the facilities and the room really nice.

Amazing

I attended a ball at the Brisbane Convention Centre so it was walking distance. Room was very nice. We were so happy that we reserved a room with a balcony. Buffet breakfast was delicious. All staff were very friendly and very helpful. We would recommend this hotel. My partner and I also were very impressed by the new look with the pool and surroundings even though we only had a chance to look.

Under delivered for price paid

I had a few things that made my stay a little annoying. I was told previously that I could pay on a different credit card than what the booking was placed under, however when I got there I was presented with a receipt and it had already been charged out at 4am in the morning before we arrived. I found that a little strange. In booking online it stated "evening turn down service" with home made chocolates. This did not happen, we did find some slippers and a tea pot on our table although there was already Tea provided in the cupboard so kind of pointless !! Also on checkout we where informed that the check in person had under charged us by $3 and it was demanded we pay it. I really was gob smacked, i would have thought when you have forked out nearly $400 for a room for 1 night that this could have been overlooked as it actually was a staff error. I stayed at Rydges as in was our 10 year wedding anniversary and this was the exact place we stayed back then when I proposed, so this place held special meaning to us. I must say I feel as though this has been tainted for both of us. It was a stretch for us to afford the room we stayed in and considering everything was less than perfect, I don't know if I will return.

Lovely Modern Rooms

The rooms at Rydges are lovely and modern. The rooms are also quite large with a nice sofa and area to work if you need to. No bath in bathroom but that is not always essential. I prefer that than to have a shower in the bath. Views are ordinary though. Even though you are given a number of choices when checking in, does not mean you get your preference (admittedly I note that it does state that when giving you the preference). I chose best view and got a glimpse of the river with a building roof across the road the main view. they do have balconies however and I had said it was my hubby's birthday and they left him a lovely note and some choccies in the fridge which was a lovely touch. the rewards program is great too so make sure you sign up if you haven't already. Great central,location, great stay if you are heading to QPAC or just want a weekend dining adventure in Brisbane.

Very nice room, not much bench space overall, noisy at night.

Top marks on the overall reno quality. Girls found benchspace in bathroom limited, and we had a request not to be anywhere near a lift which in fact we were. At night the sound of bass music can be heard until around 9 and if retiring to bed early like we did, was most uncomfortable. People getting out of the lift after many drinks was also enough to disturb sleep...hence the request to be far away from a lift. Staff all very professional and friendly. Will stay again... nice to have a water view next time, and not simply looking over roofs. The late check out was really appreciated!!

A Hotel of high standards & service.

The Bacchus Restaurant was excellent, 5 star all the way a real nice surprise. Full breakfast at the Bacchus Restaurant was great until there was a full house then the cook's couldn't keep up, baked beans were empty, scrambled eggs were sloppy & the pancake machine decided to malfunction & it appeared to be understaffed for the amount of guests there but we still enjoyed. The beds & especially the pillows were a little too hard & uncomfortable. The staff were always helpful & friendly & the concierge was very informative. We will come back because it's nice to be away from the middle of the city but still be very close to the city.

This made for a bland lunch as I didn't feel the food adequately seasoned. Thank you

Rooms much improved since refurbishment, attention to detail vital going forward.

We have stayed twice in the last two weeks and the hotel looks so much better with the rooms updated and new carpets and decor around the hotel. Our first room had some toiletries that were part used and left for us, not acceptable in a hotel of your standard ! There was a chrome bracket in the bathroom that we could not work out what it was for until we stayed the next time and realised the soap dish had been missing. The loo paper is cheap and you need to upgrade the quality. At our second stay there was no full length mirror anywhere in the room. Having said this your staff are friendly and very efficient particularly in the downstairs cafe/bar, reception and concierge area. We will certainly stay at Rydges again when visiting Brisbane. The hotel has a good atmosphere that we have related to many friends.

OUR ONLY CONCERN WAS THE DISABLED ROOM, FOR MY WIFE, THOUGH VERY COMFORTABLE, THE BED WAS WAY TOO HIGH. BEING IN A WHEELCHAIR, IT MADE IT VERY DIFFICULT GETTING IN AND OUT OF THE BED. COMMANDO ROLL HALF A DOZEN TIMES A NIGHT. APART FROM THIS, I CAN HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS ESTABLISHMENT TO ANYONE. Pretty Good

It was a large spacious room and a large bathroom. I had a nice view from my room. I asked to have the minibar emptied and was told it would cost which is just ridiculous. The bed was fabulously comfortable. My TV stopped working for most channels one day into my stay. Plenty of desk space, power points and space in my room for what I needed. I needed to leave my suitcase in the hotel overnight while I went on a one day trip and they were happy to look after it, it was returned to me safely.

good stay

I've stayed here a few times when i come down to see a show. I mainly stay here for the location, close to qpac and nice area and heaps of resterants. The beds are always comfortable and friendly staff. The room wasnt cheap so being a Rydges card holder i was hoping for an extra drink ticket for my girlfriend as well. Nice place anyway.

great staff, great sleep

The staff was really excellent - from check-in, to check out. Very helpful and friendly. The room is very cozy and comfy. I was on the first floor so had no view, but still had a balcony had I wanted to sit outside. I come to Brisbane for business and have stayed here each time so far, and will continue to do so. Location is excellent also, right near the lovely river walk.

Differing levels of service on Saturday and Saturday evening

Reception and room service staff were friendly, warm and professional. Soleil pool bar food and beverage staff were rude. The manager on duty did everything he could to appease the situation and was very nice. He also mentioned that he is trying to train the staff about customer service, something during my previous time in the industry that made me sympathise with him. We also found the valet staff to be unwelcoming and condescending. My wife and I were there on business but also wanted to utilise the time as a short getaway. I am not someone who has ever made a big deal about service from any establishment, however your invitation to submit a review has been welcomed and I hope it helps with your goals to have the standards of service lifted. Should this be treated as a whinge, then that is also your prerogative. I would normally just make a decision to not return and encourage all colleagues and friends alike to do the same if a conversation arose. I have stayed many times over the past 10 years in previous businesses/social trips and this is the first time that I have received this sort of service form your hotel and I found it unusual.

Great staff great rooms

Great staff and rooms, but unfortunately straight out of the elevator on the 5th floor you can hear the pool bar from a few levels lower if you arrive when the DJ is playing (Friday/Saturday/Sunday evenings) but you can't hear from within your room which is good. We also had parents with a crying baby next to us on one of our nights during the stay, which isn't any fault necessarily of the hotel, but still wasn't pleasant. Overall was a nice place to stay especially for easy access to Southbank and the CBD

Felt like our self checkout was ignored, requested a high level, we were on level 1, also requested an extra milk, none received. At breakfast we were not offered coffee but told where the tea making station was, it was early around 6.30am & the only ones in the restaurant. Felt a little disappointed after a first stay which after feeling so impressed with the room, staff & breakfast (pot of tea & cappuccino served to our table) that we came home & booked for this stay. The room was very clean & nice, reception was friendly as was the gentlemen doing valet parking.

An enjoyable stay

We enjoyed our stay (it really is a beautiful hotel and a great location!). just a few things: 1. The correct number of towels for room guests would be good. We only had 2 towels, despite there being 4 of us as per our reservation. I requested 4 more towels from Housekeeping but they only delivered 2. 2. For families a microwave in the room is priceless. We were staying with our 2 young children and were unable to heat their food. Just a thought! 3. The buffet is amazing!! It is excellent and very generous that the children eat free. Thank you! 4. LOVE the valet parking and concierge! The team do a wonderful job thank you!

I upgraded my room for $40 a night the day before and found a nice sized suite with all the bells and whistles. The room was lovely, we had a comfortable stay and couldn't have been any happier with it. All this for about $250 a night, great deal.

Perfect for Us

I'll be giving this review to trip advisor as well today. We couldn't have been happier with our choice of hotel and room. The deluxe king suite with river views was exactly what we wanted - comfortable, well appointed, workable room layouts, the best lighting of any hotel I've stayed in (and I've stayed in 6 star hotels too), everything we needed at hand. Perhaps a small table and plants on the balcony would elevate the outside - it's a little unappealing at the moment. We wanted to eat at Baccus but found it closes Sunday and Monday nights. No matter as we're staying with you again 8-10 July and have booked to dine at Baccus then. We sent snapchats out to our family and friends letting them know just how well positioned your hotel is and with the deals you currently have available, very affordable also. Your staff were all helpful especially Kate in the Soleil bar who went above and beyond to create two brilliant cocktails for us - she's one of your treasures. We are Accor members too and have traditionally stayed at Accor properties. Now we have found your group (we love QT too), we have been converted. Thank you for making our stay a most happy event. Ok but with a few small issues.

Really enjoyed the stay and the service was first rate. Room was excellent, but with a few small issues. 1, Balcony was full of cigarette buts? 2, Bathroom basin looks good but is difficult to use as the tapware is set too far off to the side. 3, Room needs double glazing as there is excessive road and train noise entering the rooms. 4, Noise from the pool area is excessive at night, again double glazing would help. 5, Requested a room with best views and was allocated a room on the third floor. Couldn't see the river or the city very well and was disappointed my request wasn't filled.
