Our Commitment to Sustainability
We’re taking a fresh approach to a more sustainable stay in Brisbane.
To keep nurturing our communities, local and far.
From the choices we make to the way we operate, we’re focused on doing better. Every day.
We’re building a more environmentally friendly hotel in Brisbane, where sustainability isn’t just about the goals we set, light years away – it’s about the path we’re already on.
And at Rydges South Bank Brisbane, we’re making it easier for our people, guests and partners to travel alongside us.
Together, the future’s bright.

How we're choosing better at Rydges South Bank Brisbane
Sourcing responsibly
We are choosing suppliers and products that help us reduce our environmental impact while enhancing the guest experience.
- Introduced large-format Thankyou bathroom amenities to reduce single-use plastic waste.
- Swapped single-use plastic water bottles with aluminium cans
- Using recycled and recyclable takeaway packaging options where practical.
- In room pens and pads are now available only on request, reducing unnecessary waste while still keeping you covered.
- Prioritise seasonal, locally sourced ingredients and partner with suppliers from South East Queensland who share our commitment to sustainability, helping support local producers and showcase the best of the region.
Together, these steps show that small, thoughtful choices – whether in sourcing, service, or day-to-day operations – can create a big difference for our planet and community.
Designing for the future
We are building sustainability into the way we update and run the hotel:
- Installed energy-efficient LED lighting throughout the property.
- Use motion-sensor lighting in selected areas to reduce energy consumption.
- High-efficiency appliances installed during upgrades
- Installed water-saving fixtures, including low-flow taps and dual-flush toilets, to help reduce water consumption.
- Accessing energy and water efficiency of new equipment when replacing assets.
- Use native or drought-tolerant landscaping to reduce irrigation requirements.
- Shutdown procedures developed
- for lighting, air conditioning and appliances when areas are not in use.
- Use digital documents, QR codes and electronic communications where practical to reduce printing.
Playing our part
We are responding to a changing climate, empower our people and customers to take part, and share our progress along the way.
- Introduced our Room Refresh program, rewarding guests with a $10 food and beverage voucher each night they choose to opt out of housekeeping, helping reduce water and energy consumption.
- Provide dual waste and recycling bins in guest rooms, with additional recycling facilities available throughout the property.
- Soap Aid: Used guest soap is recycled into new soap bars for vulnerable communities, helping improve hygiene and reduce waste
- Promote mindful travel by avoiding the purchase of heritage artefacts or products derived from rare or threatened species.
- Support the EVT Stretch Contributions program, enabling team members to contribute to trusted community and conservation partners, including The Children’s Hospital Foundation, Assistance Dogs Australia, Lifeline, WWF Australia, and Disabled Winter Sport Australia.
- We are proud to partner with Starlight to support wish-granting initiatives, helping bring joy and memorable experiences to patients and their families.
- All staff complete and have access to the Sustainability @EVT e-module.
- Partner with local suppliers and service providers wherever practical, helping support the local economy.
By combining environmental initiatives with community support, we’re creating a holistic approach to sustainability – one that values people as much as the planet.
You can help
Join us in choosing to protect our environment
We encourage our guests to choose to support sustainable tourism through the following simple actions.
- Save water and energy by joining our Room Refresh program and choosing to skip housekeeping and linen changes during your stay.
- Use energy efficiently by switching off lights, air conditioning and devices when leaving your room.
- Recycle where you can and help us reduce waste. Use the designated coloured bins for proper disposal of general waste, recyclables and other waste materials.
- Use reusable water bottles to minimise use of single use plastics bottles and try to use reusable grocery bags when you go shopping.
- Reduce your travel footprint by using public transport, walking or cycling where possible. If renting a car, opt for smaller, more fuel-efficient vehicles or hybrid or electric vehicles.
- Rydges South Bank Brisbane does not sell any souvenirs but encourages guest to travel mindfully by considering the origin of products purchased while travelling and avoiding heritage artefacts or items derived from rare or threatened species.
