From a dark past to a bright future… My local tip is a must visit, especially for history buffs and families alike. Elizabeth Farm is Australia’s oldest surviving European dwelling, built in 1793 by John Macarthur – one of the most influential and likewise controversial figures in early colonial history.

A lot has changed at Elizabeth Farm over the years, and the homestead is now an ‘access all areas’ museum. No locked doors, barriers or delicate furnishings here, only the most immersive living house museum experience – the recreated 1830s garden is stunningly beautiful and serene to relax in.
