Rydges Rotorua
Redwoods Treewalk
Visit websiteBeing towered over by hundred-year-old trees is a whimsical experience that should be on everyone’s bucket list when visiting Rotorua. Located just under a quarter of an hour from Rydges Rotorua, Redwoods Treewalk in Whakarewarewa Forest will make you feel like you’re walking alongside ancient giants, which is both awe-inspiring and calming at once.
Initially planted in 1901 for timber, the Whakarewarewa Forest was declared a memorial for those who fell during World War I and II. Since opening the site to the public in the 1970s, the Redwoods Treewalk was built to give visitors a sky-high view of the region.
Today, this award-winning, eco-tourism walk is suitable for families and accessible to anyone who can walk unaided. The path has you exploring the park along high walkways and wooden platforms, featuring 34 exquisite lanterns designed by world-renowned designer and sustainability champion David Trubridge.
As a Rydges Rotorua guest, we’ve got a special surprise up our sleeves for your kids when they complete the walk and the activity book included in their VIK activity pack.
